space for apps

I havent yet received my Nexus 7 16GB,

but can anyone tell me how much space has been allocated for apps?
eg. what portion of the 8/16GB is available to install apps onto?

thanks.

A kick in the 'nads under 6Gb free to store content on my 8Gb

I don't have any music and have not even come close to 6Gb with video clips I've transferred or downloaded to other devices so expect that to be OK for me

I've added posts in other threads (eg this one) about using Wireless File Transfer to add new content. BTW, I'm honestly not on commission :p I just find it perfect when you don't have OTG-USB without rooting and Stickmount

I had 13gb free on mine. I loaded about 50 apps yesterday and still have over 12gb free.

what I mean is, what portion of the over all space that you have can be used for apps?

on most android phones and tablets part of the storage is partitioned off and can only be used for system and the installation of apps.

For example, on my Samsung Galaxy S2, 2GB is available for apps, once this is used up I will not be able to install any more apps, despite having 8GB, 10GB or whatever of storage left on the other partition.

Does anyone know how much APP space there is on the Nexus 7?
sorry for any miss understanding.

Thanks.

I may be wrong but I believe the space you are talking about is only for system apps. Downloaded apps doesn't take up that space. I don't have my N7 with me so I don't know what the system space is.

I don't know if there is a fixed partition for Apps (which is what I now think you're trying to establish) but fwiw:-

• 2.5Gb of my 8Gb is currently taken up with everything on the internal storage; and
• the 31 Apps I've downloaded to keep the stock ones company have taken up 'just' 417Mb

Doesn't necesasrily answer your question obviously but thought I'd share it in case it is helpful :)

Anything not consumed by the system is available for apps or media. One the older devices that had 2GB internal and an SD card this was an issue and we needed the ability to move things to the sdcard as our app library grew.

We now have all of the 8GB or 16GB available for the system, apps, and media. So if it is 5.9 (8GB) or 13.9 (16GB) left that is all available. How you use that is up to you. On my GNex I have over 125 apps installed and they use only about 1.5GB. If it were the same on the N7 that would leave me with 4.4GB or 12.4 GB left to load up with songs, movies, or nandroids.

I hope this makes sense.

cheers Unforgiven, glad you understood what I was getting at.

I hoped that was the case.
I know my 16GB will have more than enough room for my apps, I have 120 apps on my Transformer and 109 on my SGS2 and in both cases they take up about 1GB of space.
(Both these devices do have a separate app partition though.)
I only asked as I couldnt find out that info anywhere and didnt want to find out the hard way like I did with my HTC desire and its 230MB app partition...lol.

Less than that, since Android needs about 500 megs of floor, or you get low storage alerts and can not update apps out install more ones.
