Speaker distorted when on phone

Over the last few dasy when on the phone, the call is becoming distorted with a bit echo. Im now having difficulty to make out what the caller is saying at times. I have to reduce the volume to try and make out what they are saying as full volume is just a noise of distortion.

I've not dropped the phone, it's not got wet. I just find it odd how it suddenly developed.

Anyone else have or had this issue ? Is it the speaker is knackered ?
