Help Speaker Not Working Properly

NeoRio

Newbie
In the past 2 weeks, the speaker on my Evo 4G has been turning off sporadically. At first I thought it was possibly due to my internet connection cutting off, then turning on again (while listening to Pandora, or other internet-related streaming). But then I noticed that the sound of the speaker will just cut off randomly, even when playing MP3s on the phone's memory. This effects anything related to sound, including the phone's ringer and notifications. The headphone jack works fine and if I have the phone plugged into speakers, or using headphones, the sound is fine and never shuts off.

I finally did some Googling and found that many people were having this problem (not only with the Evo 4G). Apparently it is related to the phone thinking that a headphone jack is plugged in even when it isn't and then the speakers don't work. One solution I found online was to use an app called ********** that can override the phone's detection of whether there is a headphone jack plugged into the phone. The app works sometimes, but not all the time. There are still times that no matter what settings I use on the **********, the phone's speakers still won't turn on.

I haven't been able to find anything on these forums about this issue, so I'm starting this thread to ask if anybody else has any solutions or has heard of anything that might fix this problem.

Thank you,
Neo

What app? Is it really called ********? From what your experiencing it could be a hardware failure, my Evo doesnt have that problem. You can try cleaning the inside or trying different apps, if you still have the warranty replacing the phone could be a last resort.

Also are you rooted? What ROM are you using? Did you try reflashing the ROM? Sorry for the douple post couldnt find the edit button lol.

Thanks for the answer. Yes, I'm rooted and the ROM I'm using is SuperSonic. I'm pretty sure it's a hardware problem at this point. While the app mentioned (which must not be allowed in this thread) does help to trick the phone into thinking there is or is not anything plugged into the headphone jack, there are still issues. And now I'm hearing distorted sounds out of the speaker every now and then. I saw that they sell speakers for the 4G on eBay for under $4 along with the tools to open the phone up and install it. I'm hesitant to go this route, but since I bought the phone used and have had it for about a year, it is not under warranty and it is flashed to Boost Mobile also. So, maybe replacing the speaker would be the next step for me.

I wonder if there are any good video guides on how to replace the speaker.

Kind Regards,
Neo
