speculation, rumors, leaks about EVO release

Which would be great for us because it would allow developers to avoid all of the issues with fragmentation on the android market due to so many different devices sharing the same app source. They could make way more apps in way less time

Check out this possible misprint?

Android - Sprint ADP

Jackson at the sprint community forum posted this. I'm hoping it's not but we'll have to find out

Yeah well, the phone they had at CTIA wasn't AMOLED, and I would hope that isn't going to change before launch.

Edit:
"Also the only apps that demoers of the device were allowed to use at CTIA were youtube and the camera app. Sprint has something up their sleeves reguarding everything else"
got goosebumps after reading that lol

yup... they're gonna blow the rednecks away with that fancy-schmancy NASSCAR app... :D

there's no way it would change... besides, i'm pretty sure the choice to go with TFT is either lack of an available 4.3" AMOLED display, and/or it currently being cost-prohibitive.... i doubt *most* people would want to pay $500-600 for a subsidized EVO with AMOLED vs $250-300 for one with a TFT... (* I'm just guessing on the prices, but the cost difference would be significant...)

For what it is worth:

April 16th is usually a day for Americans to feel a bit of relief. It is the day after tax papers must be postmarked and once put in the mail, the pressure is off until next year. This year, it looks like Americans have another reason to look forward to the 16th of next month. According to Sprint's Facebook page, the WiMax enabled HTC EVO 4G is expected to be launched on that date, bringing 4G speed to a cellphone in the U.S. which has similar specs to those seen on the HTC HD2. The handset will roll with Android 2.1 under the hood and a 1GHz Snapdragon chip creates a model able to run apps, open and close programs quickly. The 4G connection is supposed to provide data to hit the 4.3 inch capacitive touch screen at a speed up to 10 times that of 3G. April 16th could be the start of the nation's move to supersonic speeds on cellphones. And if it does get launched that day, the actual release of the EVO 4G also will have occurred rather quickly considering that the original plan called for a summer release of the device. Either Sprint feels the pressure to release this after the Palm Pre and Pixi debacle, or the carrier just wants to get a leg up on offering a 4G phone to American cellphone users. And while the end result is the same regardless of the reason, one sounds like desperation while the other is just a clever business idea.

April 16th could be the date Sprint releases the EVO 4G (Phone Arena News)

I really want this phone too, but April 16th sounds extremely optimistic. I wouldn't mind it if the phone were released earlier than the announced summer 2010 date, but I don't think people should get their hopes up too high. From what I'm reading, Sprint is still working on the phone, so a release date this early doesn't sound credible.

An early release date was what I was hoping for prior to the announcement of the EVO 4G when we were still talking about the Supersonic.

Just because a phone has a keyboard, doesn't make it better than one without one.

And just because there will be a WebOS WiMax phone, doesn't mean the hardware aspect of the phone will be any good.

This is an HTC Android with a Snapdragon we're talking about here.

Palm' hardware is garbage, and LG phones never turn out like they're hyped to be.

Honestly, if they put WebOS on a phone like the EVO (hardware wise), I'd skip the Android version. I love WebOS, but what you say about Palm' hardware being garbage is true. My Pre has held up pretty good compared to many people (only had one issue and that was the power button) but I still think they need to design the hardware better.

Yea Im gonna have to agree. That is solely based on a facebook image. I find it highly unlikely.

Anyone have a link to Sprints fb page? i cant get it now at school because it is blocked but i can try on my phone. i still think june is a good date for one reason. i want sprint to be 100% ready. by that i mean very little bugs with the phone when it comes out.

OH! and April 16th is during my spring break! pretty good timing if by some odd chance this is true. now i am excited

got it thanks. idk what to say about it. the event type is retail, so the only two things i can think of is that this is the pre-order date, or the actualy release. but lets get real here, bestbuy is offering pre-orders. april 16th is 18 days away. this would be the shortest pre-order time period ive heard of.

I think April 16th is when they announce the REAL launch date for all sales channels but I'm hoping they are opening this date for PRE sale to premier customers. That's just my opinion. Let's cross our fingers and hope for the best

wjackson14 says this could possibly be the date that sprint releases more info like prices. im thinking that and pre-order date.

This makes more sense than a April 16th release date.

That April 16th date is the end of a PR event on the Evo. Not sure why people jumped to the conclusion that it meant the phone was being released. Why would Sprint anounce the phone at CTIA, with a summer release, then a few days later change to April? So, don't get your hopes up. I believe Bestbuy is gearing up for a pre-sell campaign in May, so April makes no sense.

To cap it off, nobody thinks about going to spend money the day after they write a fat heck to the IRS. Anyone receiving a refund would likely have filed a couple months ago (like me!) and recieved their check long ago. I think April 16th is probably the least attractive day to release a new product.

That being said, keep posting the rumors, because eventually the correct one is going to show up.

The fact that Best Buy is doing any kind of presale, or has a notion of it....tells me that Sprint might be going real BIG on marketing the EVO.

At least in my area, I have never heard of a store doing any sort of presale/reservation at least not for a phone.

No DOUBT! Imagine the marketing power of Best Buy + Sprint + Google + HTC combined? That's a lot of money I would imagine. Not really sure how the whole marketing side works behind a product (I've always been on the engineering side) but I would imagine with these big 4 power players - it's gonna be HUGE.
