Root Speech to text Gingerbread ROM?

ProAc_Fan

Newbie
Total newbie here so forgive me if I ask a silly question. I installed the gingerbread rom on my rooted Desire just a few days ago. I found it to be very quick and stable too. However, I have lousy eyesight as I get older, so when I found out the Desire can do speech to text with the standard HTC IME keyboard I switched back to Froyo 2.2. My question is can I reinstall the gingerbread rom and still find a way to have the HTC IME keyboard and speech to text functionality? I use swype too and that's fine when I have reading glasses on but when I'm driving I prefer speech to text.

TIA

Mike

So I can save those on my SD card and install from there using astro file manager? I'm new to this whole phone tweaking phenomena. LOL. Oh and not to get off topic but I noticed HTC sync no longer works after installing the custom ROM. Is there then a method to sync it with my Mac or PC? I have both.

Mike

Just download a HTC IME mod.

You can try my black one.

Need to install both. Top one keyboard, bottom one keyboard settings.

You need to select keyboard in settings, language and keyboard. Then long press on any text input field and select input method

Cheers mate, I was getting really pissed off with the Android keyboard after I embarrassingly needed to enter someone's email address and couldn't find the underscore key lol ;)

Yep install exactly like that.

HTC sync only works with HTC sense Roms. There must be other ways to sync to pc but I don't know them. Everything is online for me.

I unzipped the files and copied the .apks into my SDcard and then used a file manager to install from there.
Astro should work fine.

My phone explorer will allow you to synchronise contacts, SMS etc.
Although I use Google cloud for contacts and calenders and SMSbackup+ for SMS.

No worries. I cannot use anything other than the HTC keyboard.

I like the look of this black one too. Much nicer than the standard grey one.

I have a nice blue one too, but black is better IMHO

Well I'm doing something wrong apparently. I dloaded those 2 files to my SD card but astro file manager says file not found when I click to open them. SO I went back and added the zip files instead but astro won't install from those either. After I reflashed back to the gingerbread ROM I had no way to easily sync the files onto the SD card so I tried sending them by email to my Desire and opening them from there but to no avail. I'm sort of stuck in limbo over what to try next. How can I sync by Desire as a drive to my Imac?

Mike

Not sync but plug in usb and pull down notification bar. Select mount sd card.

You need to extract the apk and put both on sd card then open in astro.

I find email apk doesn't work
