Help Speed Dial

Before I begin my post, it is necessary to say thank you to the administrators, moderators, webmasters, or whoever is responsible for this change that I like so much. This new feature with the title & search is great. Now I don't have to worry about looking like an asshat here. Thank you!

I am wondering how I can get my contacts into speed dial. You hold 1 and get voicemail, how do I put contacts in the other buttons? Do I need an app for that? If so, which one?

you can set a shortcut to direct dial on your home screen by long pressing on the home screen selecting shortcut and then direct dial. then select your contact and your done. now tap on the icon and it will call that person.
 
I was trying to find the answer to this and decided to look to the latest posts because there were no answers only workarounds. The speed dial to me is great because in the dialer app you only hit one key and well I only have like two friends so it's easy to remember them as a number. Anyway, the answer is simple, open the dialer app and push the button on the far left of the bottom of your phone and it will show you a preference to setup speed dial numbers. Hope this helps.
 
What I did was I made DirectDial shortcuts and I put those on the dock -- I have three docks with launcher pro. I also have some other contact folders that have other numbers I call frequently for other purposes. You would need folder organizer to do that, but you can also create shortcuts on a desktop. There are many workarounds. I don't need the speed dialer now. You have to press a button to open the dialer anyway, so I don't miss it so much.

How do I install as default dialer? It seems to switch to current dialer once phone starts ringing as I get the current dialer screen @ that point. Am I missing something? THANKS
