Help Speed Dial?

I was looking at the dialer trying to figure out how to set speed dials. I see that in the contacts the phone will show your starred contacts but I use my speed dials all the time.

Has anyone figured this out?

You can create direct dial shortcuts for specific people, not sure about speed dialing.

Not looking to do that as to not clutter up the screen. I guess the other option is to put them all in a folder like the default Google folder.

I believe only Sense allowed T9 dialing.... I think there's a few apps that will duplicate that, but I miss it. =( Your frequently called appear at the top of your contact list in the dialer, but you can't even set a favorites tab.

You can get Dialer One from the Market, that lets you type the name. Similar to the Sense dialer.

There is a direct dial widget. settings>app>widgets>direct dial

I can't imagine speed dials working better than the combination of (1) "starring" the contacts so they show up at the top over on the contacts icon in the phone app and (2) creating a desktop shortcut to direct dial frequently called numbers. Just put them on one of your desktop screens.

Really, how then. Doesnt work on my phone. If the app mentioned works ill be happy. Major shortcoming with the phone.

One not so easy work around is to use GoLauncher or Launcher Pro Plus. They come with widgets that you can resize to fit any amount of fav. contacts. The problem is, I really love the stock ICS launcher, so it's not the best option.
I also recommend Dialer One. I don't use it, but it's solid and very customizable.
