3G upload speeds are capped at 150k average (it will spike but will drop back to 150k). This is the "Premium" data plan. When you pay your bill, remember to bend over and say, "thank you sir, may I have another". BTW, a less well known treat is that download speeds are about (on average) half that of any other Sprint 3G phone in the exact same location at the exact same time (I've tested five of my own.)

OP lives in a 4G city, so he probably doesnt't care about a 3G upload cap. As far as 3G download speeds, I ran two tests with the Speedtest.net app with 3 bars of signal and got about 1300k both times.

I too live in a 4G city (Austin, TX) and 4G SUCKS.

If I stand outside the front door to my house I get near full 4G signal. If I walk in the front door (25% of it is a glass window) and the bars drop to 1, and if I wank 15 feet into the house (open great room with windows on all sides) and the signal is gone.

Standing outside my office I get 2/3rd signal. Inside my office (with a window) I get intermittent signal (unreliable).

If I'm moving (on train, bus or being driven), it seems that 4G is less flexible handing off from tower to tower and maintaining consistent connection. It will drop the connection and pick it back up. This is a pain if you are streaming audio or video.

4G (Sprint WiMax) is VERY line of sight limited. If I'm standing outside the UT football stadium I get 50% to 2/3rd signal. At my seat on the lower level of the outdoor football stadium I get no signal.

4G is not a replacement for 3G, it is a special situation use case.

i live in the heart of baltimore city. unfortunately, i live in an apartment facing inwards. i get ~1-2 bars of 3g signal and zero 4g signal. if 3g signal can reach me (and i live in the heart of baltmore) why can't 4g reach me?! cause the signal is crud.

the 4g signal is on a higher frequency which doesn't penetrate walls as well.

4G indoors!

those are 3G tests...you have to test it when 4G is connected....it will say at the top of the screen "connected to 4G" and the 4G bars will turn yellow.
2nd pic is pretty good for 3G tho.

If you look at the top of the pics you will see 3G and 4G the 4G has ZZZZZ by it thats cuz the connection was sleeping hence the zzzzzz at the time I had moved away from the 4G area and yes I did get better 4G. Thanks

Right now my 4g speeds seem to be better than ever! I'm seeing constant and consistent 7Mbps speeds! Web pages are loading up about as fast as a desktop. I'm doing all this right from my own room (i get 2-3 bars in my room). I honestly can't use 3g anymore cause it feels so slow. I get 4g in most places I go as well.

Battery life isn't too bad either with 4g left on all day. I lasted 13hrs and 10 minutes yesterday on a 91% charge. On screen usage time was 4hrs and 15 minutes. Today was 11hrs and 45 minutes on a 100% charge with 3 hours and 16 minutes of on screen time. I had my brightness set to 0 yesterday which probably helped out. Also, I have a spare battery when I am low :)

I didn't know wanking had anything to do with 4G

No 4G around here, yet. 3G averages 1.2 - 1.5 down and since DI18, my up goes between 500-750. Of course that still translates to 300-400 down when using the Epic as a wifi hotspot. Wish they could fix that.

Seems like you guys get insane speeds. Here are a few i been taking each day starting on 10/21 the last few weeks...

1401d/524u
456d/181u
976d/616u
1285d/515u
379d/618u
766d/666u
1240d/613u
1033d/447u
999d/548u
528d/445u
336d/195u
1730d/370u

Does this look normal to you? It's 3G speeds. I live in Daly City which is the city next to San Francisco. Thanks.

Damn - that's good to know about Fountain Valley.
I'm seeing it getting stronger in Costa Mesa, CA. Here's my last run with 2 bars on 10/23:

5.66 Mbps Down
1.16 Mbps Up

A month earlier, the highest I was getting (in the same location) was in the 3.xx down range.

I can be looking at the tower from my car and just barely hit 2M down and 1M up. Used speedtest.net app on Epic 4G 2.1 update 1. A month ago I was hitting 4.5M down and 1M up and not looking at tower. What happen idk?

I don't think 4g is official in Orange County (CA), but here in Costa Mesa (like someone else had mentinoed) I seem to get 4g signals. It's a little spotty deep in the center of the house, but oddly enough, I get my best speeds while in a bathroom without having full bars. Makes me wish I had been outside.

Sorry, had to use my webcam to take the pics.
