Root Speed up your 3G...

I know there's other threads on the TU but none say this. And other phone threads say it and it works on the TU as well.

What you need to do is go to the phone and put in the ##3282# enter in your MSL press edit and enter the MSL in again. Press advanced and change the first three things (all 3 vocoder's) to 4GV. Reboot and you'll notice the change later if not instant.

Before (yesterday noticed no change)...

After (got these this morning)...

I don't get 2mb all the time, but if you noticed I do get 600k+ most of the slow times.

Thanks doesn't go to me for finding this, but rather sharing it with us.
Sorry, can't find the post that I found this from yesterday...I'll update it use I find the true author.
Found it, props go to ron580 on this thread.

Cheers and enjoy!

Edit: I'd like to mention I'm on the Sprint PRL 60687, So I have not tested the newest 61008 for Boost.

According to Interdpth, if you enable USB + DM mode and send the default Samsung code using CDMA Workshop, it could increase your network speed. But I wasn't having any luck trying to get my phone to answer on 2.3.6.

One of my options was Wild, on my new ZTE Warp that replaced my STU? Have any ideas what this could do

Mr peter you're the man. followed your directions and for the first time something on my phone actually worked.. it's a lot faster. I've been trying to root it for a while and have been unsuccessful cause im a noob. This is definitely easy and definitely worth it.thanx

glad u posted in here so i could find this thread.

to answer your question root not needed as i just did it.

Just returned a rush and got a new tu and 3g was so slow i thought there was a problem with it. forgot the last phone i had to do all these tweaks to spped it up. Have to say it worked great.

I be dam! It worked instantly for me. Now for the first time, I get 2Mbps for three tries in the row. Is there any more tweak? I wish it can got to 4Mbps.

This is magic; now I got at least 2Mbps on several tries speedtest. By the way for the method of changing PRL, does my phone need to be rooted in order to try the PRL changing method? Is the changing prl method safe? I am scare to do that prl method because I don't know which one is good and it will take time to find out.

Which PRL are you using?

No bro no root necessary!!! This is all you gotta do literally!!!

1.MAKE A NANDROID BACKUP!!!! I don't encourage anyone to do anything to their phone without doing this first!!!
2.Get a copy of QPSTs newest version (I believe its 2.7) just uhh..... do some googleing and you'll find what ur lookn for!!
3.plug your phone into your computer(both with debug on and off) to make sure it installs all of its drivers
4.put your phone into Download Mode and switch it from uart to USB
5.plug in your phone to your computer via USB cord and go to device manager. Find the port your phone is connected to and remember it!!
6.To make sure, run QPST as Admin and open server. Look for your phone and after you find it open up service programming for it.
7.Go to the PRL part and click read from phone and it will display your current PRL. Click on the box to replace it with a PRL file of your choice (that you have to download/QPST DOES NOT COME WITH ANY PRL FILES ITS SELF!!!!) Its best you download the files and know where they are!!
8.after you fill in the box with the file just click write to phone and your phone will reset with your new PRL!!

It sounds like a lot but its not!! And you can do this over and over again with no problem!!! My first flash was to 11115!!! And I currently use 11119!!! Its sweet!!

Hi i followed all the steps that you listed but i am not getting up to 2MB. Am i supposed to save the settings (swithching everything to 4GV) is so then how do i do so and how do i reboot the phone
Thank you

.....ummmm correct me if I'm wrong but...on this particular phone dont we have to be rooted to make a nandroid backup?? Lol. I'm hoping that wont start another CAPS LOCK frenzy but i was just curious :)

@shezzy- you most definitely can do this on your rooted tu running megatron and if you happen to flash a prl that improves your signal quality, you will actually help your battery life.

Adding to what thacloser said, changing the vocoders (as suggested in the OP) won't hurt your battery life either, and works with Megatron 6.0.4 (I didn't find out about the vocoders until after I already had Megatron installed, anyway :p).

i changed the vocoders as OP said.. not sure if it changed battery life.. doesnt install megatron update the prl? if not, which is best to get both speed and battery?

Sorry, but unfortunately "I don't know" is the answer to both of those questions. I don't know enough about the vocoders to say whether Megatron edits them, let alone where the physical file for them is on the phone (if one exists at all). I haven't noticed much of a difference on my phone at all when I've changed them, battery-wise or performance-wise.

I've done this in the past and it was getting me at least 800-1000kbps. Now it won't get above 400ish download, either changing the Vcoders or not. I also had an app called 3g/4g speed optimizer that seemed to help tremendously, but I haven' t seen any good speeds lately.

I just don't know why it jumped my speeds greatly at first (changing Vcoders and the app) but now its slow again. I didn't pass my "2.5gb" throttle so IDK.

Any advice? I've tried uninstalling the app, changing back to EVRC (or whatever) and still nada. But it worked before, no changes really. I want it back! Especially if people are getting 2mBit/sec!

I had some tweaks applied from AutoKillerMemoryPro and still got the good speeds so I'm kinda stuck.

My PRL shows as 61009 and running Megatron latest release.

I can only speak from the Sprint side of things but the coverage has been extremely bad lately. I could have full bars and speed reserved for a snail. The Sprint PRL has changed numerous times over a month and even the lastest 22094 has not produced any thing better.
