Spell check blues on Galaxy Note

profp

Lurker
Just got my new Note yesterday, upgrading from a Blackberry. Love the big screen, what a difference. However, I am completely shocked that there is no spell check with the email app. Am wondering if I should have waited for the Nokia Lumia 900 since I send a lot of emails and really, really miss my spell check. Anyone know if there are plans to improve the email function?

That's because people don't generally need when you have predictive text.

Do you not use Swype with predictive text function? Should show you the word and the spelling will be correct. :)

Dude - I had never even heard of Swype until I saw it in the settings a few days ago and enabled it. I haven't made a spelling mistake in 2 days using it.

Yep, Swype's good. My only criticism of it is that you really do need to read the manual to get the most out of it, so some people get put off. But once you know all the tricks it can do, it's the fastest way to type.

My only gripe with it is that I can't be snarky and speak in game geek to my husband without having to add 100 new "words". :p

Here's my question. Can you have a spell checker in all programs that have typing capabilities but have absolutely no predictive text?

I have an iPhone 4 right now and just went to test out the galaxy note. I love all aspects about it except texting. I hate predictive text when its in the form of multiple words and boxes popping up, but I want there to be a spellcheck function and auto capitalization and punctuation fixes. iPhone's predictive text doesn't bother me because a bunch of bs isn't flashing while I'm typing and yet it will still autocorrect.

Does android have the capabilities for predictive text like the iPhone or am I stuck with the way it is? Turning off predictive text also makes it so spellcheck can't be turned on, which makes no sense to me, or am I mistaken on that?

Never owned an android so I know nothing. Please help so I can decide if I want to make the switch! Thanks.

This. I've been using Swiftkey Tablet X keyboard but wasn't entirely satisfied. Heard quite a bit about Swype so thought I'd persevere and give it a go - very glad I did! Once you learn it's foibles it's utterly brilliant.

I'm in the same boat. Definitely need a fix for this...

i use Swype and i downloaded sms to swype, or something to that effect. uses all your sms and other messages to build a custom dictionary for your predictive text input. sure, sometimes you have to input a new word, but it gives you the quick option to add it to your dictionary...

I am using SwiftKey and it have one of the best dictionary. In addition, it can even predict what u are going to type. The more u use, the higher the accuracy of the prediction.

It's possible to set the keyboard preferences so that Predictive Text is on but Auto-Correct is off. You might find this helpful.
