Spillied drink on my phone and comp

So I was on the computer and I had my phone near the monitor where I always keep it for easy reach. Now I knocked my drink over (Rockstar energy drink 500ml) and it spilled right near the monitor and a bit on my phone. Now everything seems to be working ok, I don't think anything went in the front speaker as I tested the call quality and it seems to be working ok, a little drop went in the home button but that seems to be working ok too. I had a TPU case so the closing at the front stopped the drink from spreading over the phone. I've turned it off and pulled out the battery but is it a big deal if a little drop goes in the home button? I don't hear any weird noises or anything.

I've heard that that's what you're not meant to do. The phone wasn't soaked or anything, just a little bit went on the screen and a little drop seems to have went in but i'm not too sure though since it's all working fine.

Yeah I guess since it wasn't submerged fully,and only got splashed a bit,it's probably ok,it's a L9?

That's not good, the stuff is full of sugar and is probably quite corrosive. While things might appear to be work at the moment, if it got on the circuit boards and components. Soda eats through copper and aluminium, don't be too surprised if it has problems later on, unless you can try and get them checked-out and cleaned up. That's what I'm thinking. If you don't think it actually went right inside you might be OK.

Orange and lemon juice and sodas are the ones that really kill electronics, citric acid.

Yea i've read about it :/ Though i've had the phone since the end of April and I have a 1 year warranty. I'm not even 100% sure it even got in, the TPU case really helped since the phone was elevated and nothing got in the back speaker or camera or any ports. Hell it didn't even hit any cables and only got the top of my computer tower and some went on the floor, but all the cables weren't affected I think I just got REALLY lucky. :(
 
For those of you who have seen Hot Tub Time Machine, be glad you spilled Rockstar and not Chernobli on it!

It doesn't sound like you are headed for major problems. But, I think as Mikedt mentions above, you might want to proceed with at least a little caution. Perhaps you or someone can open it up and double check. At the very least I can see the button sticking down the line a little.
 
It's good that you pulled the battery and turned it off right away, that is the very first thing you should do.

From what I've read, the 'rice' trick is just that. It won't do much. I'll also agree that spilling a soda on your phone is very very bad.

If it's working ok for now, you _might_ be in the clear, but I'll add for the readers anyways.

With the battery pulled and the phone off (obviously) some rubbing alcohol (or a stronger quickly evaporating solvent if the construction of the phone will alllow) would be more in order. A small amount, swish it around where the offending liquid got in, drain, and then let it dry for hours/days. And maybe repeat, just in case.

Ive seen youtube vids where phones (powered on) are submerged in very pure alcohol and they work fine (aparently its non conductive) so that would be a great way if someone is brave enough to remove any crap theyve spilled on a phone and obviously alcohol evaporates much faster than water. Ive never seen very (like 98% or something) pure alcohol though so i duno where youd buy it (?)
 
I wouldn't recommend doing it while its on, but alcohol evaporates quickly so its good for getting water out


Rice actually works quite well, assuming you do it right
 
And neither would I recommend while it's on. If rubbing alcohol isn't 'strong' enough, I was thinking Acetone, or xylol or even lacquer thinner if the construction of the phone wouldn't melt, but if you want to stay alcohol based, one could buy 190 proof Everclear which is 95% pure ethyl alcohol.
 
Lol yeah personaly id do it with the phone stripped down and give it a good swish around but in the vids ive seen, the phones have been fine turned on :)
I havent done anything to check if alcohol is an insulator though and it must feel weird putting the phone in a liquid :)
