Help Splotchy Lock Screen?

i set my lock screen to be a solid black image but it appears splotchy/blotchy on the one side, almost like clouds (see pic). if i bump up the brightness, it becomes very obvious. i can't take a screen capture of it because it's the lock screen, so i made this in ms paint to give you a better idea.

it doesn't do it on the home screen, which is also solid black, so i'm ruling out that it's a screen problem.

does this happen to anyone else?
is there a way to change it?

Do other LS images have similar low quality?

^ i don't really notice it on pictures but if the lock screen is any solid color (besides white) it's very obvious. also tried different image files: .jpg .bmp

You can still take a screen shot of your lock screen, Home and power button at the same time. ;)

A while back I downloaded a "no image" from Play Store, which presents itself as pure black on lock and home screens.. it has to be placed in the folder with live wallpapers to work.

Try that, because if you see the distortion through no real image, then you may have a defective rendering issue for the lock screen, which means discussion with a carrier/manufacturer/store tech may be prudent for an exchange or refund, etc.

Don...a new trick for you, now that you're in the Note 2 fam.

Take out the SPen, hold the button down, hold the pen on the screen...instant screenshot!

Are you pressing them both at the same time, check mine below works fine, and it also worked before I was rooted also.

i just downloaded "no wallpaper"; it's a live wallpaper, it doesn't have the "clouds" on it like the pictures do but i lose that cool ripple effect when i unlock (no big deal).

would anyone mind testing out a solid image for their lock screen and letting me know if they get the clouds too? i'm curious to see if it's just me.

Yep I know that one, was just showing another way to do it with the lockscreen enabled. ;)

Actually this is where I first saw it ;)

Mine does too mate, never really bothered to do anything about it as it's pretty faint but you can definitely see lighter splotches on the left hand side.

Edit - Not sure how noticeable it is on that screenshot but it's definitely there

It's the ripple unlocking effect that causes this splodging. I have a black background, which incidentally I created by taking a picture with the rear camera pressed against the sofa, and I too get the clouding effect on the left hand side. Turn the ripple effect off in the lockscreen options menu and it goes away.
