Root [Sprint] 4.3 question

I'm still on mu stock ROm but rooted on my S4 I'm trying to figure out all what I need in order to move to 4.3.
 
The 4.3 update will come as a ota update to the device all you will need is a phone bill paid , good signal and a device that can be updated to 4.3 . Some carriers haven't pushed this out yet . Who is your carrier for the s4
 
Is this not under the Sprint carrier? My S4 is with sprint, my phone is already rooted with the stock ROM.. My understanding is if I take the OTA update it will break my root.

I tried asking on XDA but got no help, i was hoping to download it since I can do without the sprint junk on the phone.
 
You should not update with root still in place. It has been causing many some problems up to and including soft bricking because the update error's out.

One of the popular XDA threads has instructions on how to properly unroot the phone and update to 4.3. You will have to reflash the phone with stock MF9 (it won't wipe your data) and then install 4.3. Just keep in mind it's a one way trip. If you don't like 4.3, you can't go back.
 
Darnell is correct. Trust me, I learned the hard way, and should have known better. Get back to stock MF9 with all "official" on the download screen. Then either take the OTA or flash through stock recovery. If you retore all your apps/settings after getting stock and official on MF9, they should stay in place after the update.

Some say if you also root the phone in the above scenario just before doing the update, your phone will stay rooted after the update w/o tripping the Knox bit. That's because it's a "clean" root, no system mods/tweaks/roms. I can't say for sure that works or not, though.
 
Hands free google now - you mean the "ok google" from home screen? That is a google search feature. Read more here

4.3 has TRIM support, so should keep your phone feeling snappy
 
I'm also rooted with a stock rom. The ota icon is on my notification bar now. Is there a way to re-root after i update? If not, how do i get the update notification to go away?
Edit: found the toggle in Google services framework to get rid of the notification for now.

Yes you can root MJA. CF-Auto Root still works but it will trip Knox. However it only voids your Samsung warranty (or corporate compliance). You can still get replacements through insurance.

There's a way to get root without tripping Knox, but it is a very involved process.
 
There's some question about if tripping Knox means Samsung will not warranty it. Some say it's only a flag set to let folks know the phone has been "tampered" with. So if a company was going to install some secure software on the phone for an employee, they may want to know it's a "clean" OS environment.

Darnell is right about rooting after installing 4.3. Easy to do.
