Root [Sprint/Cricket] Can someone explain the MA4 modem?

Just as the title says, I saw that there are two MA4 leaked roms and would like to know more. What do I need to install the modem? What is the purpose? Any help would be appreciated.
 
If you have reception/signal problems modems can help improve the reception but it can also make it worse.

I ran MA4 for about a week and it wasn't a great improvement but it was better than LJ7 for me.
MA6 is now out. I installed it yesterday in the new release of the MOAR Rom and I have noticed faster internet speeds with it and actually get a signal at my desk here at work now where I didn't with the LJ7.

Freeza has a few different files on XDA with the new MA6. You can install the stock rooted Rom or just the modem/firmware, he has a file for each.

Ahh I see. One more quick question. Looking at MOAR Rom and I think I might go with that. Would I have to install MA6 first? Or will installing that rom do it for me?
 
When I installed the MOAR Rom it did not update the modem to MA6 so I used the file (modem/firmware) from Freeza's thread to install it.

You can check it in the Setting Menu in About Device the Baseband version should be L710VPBMA6
 
Modems/firmware must be installed separately from ROM. Freeza's method is the easiest since he always builds AIO (all-in-one) packages that are flashable in recovery.
