It's really a personal preference. I like TWRP better myself, but that's because I've used it more. It does seem to have a time stamp bug for the GS3, (it's correct on my Nexus 7). I'd recommend you try both and see for yourself. You can switch between them by flashing the recovery.

Here's the link for TWRP The easiest way to install it is through a program called Goo Manager in the Play Store. You then tap the 3 dot menu and select "Open Recovery..." It does it for you.

I found this for CWM, apparently you install ROM Manager from the Playstore to install it. I haven't done it that way, so I can't speak for it. If you search, you can probably find the .zip's for each one and flash them from recovery manually. You can have CWM installed and flash TWRP and vice versa. A word of warning though, the backups created with one are not compatible with the other.

Hope that helps :)

Thanks and yea it helped. Is it possible to have both on my phone. I really don't want to lose my backup

It's possible to have both zip files on the phone, but only one can be installed at a time. As far as losing your backup, I have a system where I do a backup every 2 weeks and copy the old one to my computer. If your backup is months old, it may get you out of a jam, but all your installed apps and data will also be really old.

TWRP has been my recovery of choice for some time now.

Partially leftover from the OG EVO, but I stay away from clockworkmod whenever I can

I haven't used cwm yet, but twrp has never let me down yet.

The only downside, if you go back and forth from 4.1 to 4.2 and you store your nandroid on the internal sd card rather than external. Twrp won't be able to find them because of the dreaded 0 folder.

id suggest you download rom toolbox from the play store. there is a free version and a paid one too. it gives you very easy access to both without manually having to flash anything. if you have the money, buy the pro version and support the developer. the app also gives you access to downloadable roms for your phone, but most of them are out dated. its still an awesome app that combines about 40 apps into one. it gives you a high amount of customization options. try it out and tell me how you liked it.

Ok i installed TWRP and then i backed up my rom. i then downloaded MOAR rom and app zip and tryed to install and it keeps saying failed. what am i doing wrong. i also did all the wiping needed also.

Apparently I tried on 2 different computers

Just to be sure, and I don't mean to sound condescending, but are you trying to unzip the downloads yourself? You should just copy the .zip to the root directory of your SD or external SD then reboot into TWRP and tap install. From there, located the .zip, select it and start the install process.

Its cool and yea thats exactly what im doing. the same as all the other ive done. just to be sure it wasnt me i flashed a different one lastnight.
