Root [Sprint/Cricket] CWM or TWRP

Hi, I am having the similar problem with twrp and CWM. I am using samsung galaxy s3 international version (i9300)
I have rooted this device by Odin with CF-Root-SGS3-v6.2.tar (with CWM) included.
Forgive me i am noob. I also installed GooManager and TWRP were installed there.
Now when i try to reboot recovery with either TWRP and CWM, both will not work but instead load to default android recovery <3e>.
Help...~ Thanks a lot .

so im going to lose everything

No. Because your cwm backups are still there. They are not stored in your recovery storage where the flashed cwm code is. There's a lot of wrong advice here. Be careful. Best advice I can give is install cwm. Do backup : this is effectively a nandroid backup of your running phone. Then set it up for usb debugging , connect it and then do an adb pull to your pc for safe keeping. You can google how rather than me post rapidly out of date info here. Use cwm rom manager to see your backup. Uninstall any app. Start your phone at the boot cwm recovery or from the recover option on your backup in the rom manager ui and recover your backup. See.. App is back as you'd hope. In fact the lot has been replaced. Now flash twrp. Boot. Open rom manager and you can still see your cwm backup but can't recover it because twrp is in the driving seat at recovery boot. Flash cwm again, boot to recovery either by whatever button combo does it at power on or from rom manager after booting into android. There's your cwm backup! And remember its also copied safely to your pc anyway (adb pull after creating the backup) . Play and take a lot that you read here and a few in blogs with a pinch of salt. Have fun.

Sounds like when you rooted it didn't flash CWM properly. I would flash just a recovery tar again using Odin because you are currently on stock recovery.

Remember if you've updated to 4.3 than your all stuck without a recovery. At least till the powers that be can come up with a solution.

Again if your on 4.3 android version (found in settings app under about phone) than your stuck with root but no recovery or a way to go back.... for now.

That's not true...first, you can't get root without a custom recovery. And there are Knox free versions of 4.3 available. What happens is when you flash a recovery on a Knox boot loader, it trips the counter and voids your warranty. But you can root, flash rom zips, mods, tweaks, all you want. You just can't flash a different boot loader from another build, which is normally only possible using Odin. So you are partially correct in that you are stuck with Knox boot loader, but definitely can root, get recovery, and flash other roms. Just know that once you flash that first custom recovery, your warranty is voided. Enjoy :)

Yes. This is 100% not true. There is a guide to installing a custom recovery on 4.3 in the Virgin Mobile section (recovery will work for your device as well) found here:

I said you can root. And upon review. Your still screwd. You cannot flash to a older android version. It has bricked many other people's s3. I have heard of a few people accomplishing this... but my point was I wouldn't try it. I guess in this aspect I was wrong and stand corrected.

Even with the official 4.3 update containing the Knox bootloader you can in fact revert to an earlier version of Android as long as the flashable zip doesn't contain a bootloader. The only thing Knox bootloader cares about is itself meaning you can flash ANY version of Android so long as you don't try to downgrade the bootloader than you're stuck with a fancy paperweight.

Now, if you try to downgrade with an earlier version of Android via Odin, you will definitely brick your phone because Odin firmware packages (tars) DO contain the bootloader.

So, with the Knox bootloader you are free to flash anything.. custom roms no matter what version of Android, custom kernels, modems, custom recoveries.. but the bootloader is there to stay or you WILL have a brick.

It's all good man. Yes, you did say you can root. But in the same breath you said you can't have recovery. I was only pointing out that you can't have root without a custom recovery, both of which you can have, with or without Knox bootloader. :)
