Use the app My Files (it's a file browser), navigate to SDcard, and delete the ROM zips (or any other files) you don't want.

Well if you have clockworkmod recovery its a option to remove and it show you which you have and it ask to free up space

It's just easier to use a file manager (with non system access) then to mess around in recovery.

I like hooking my phone to my PC with a 22" screen for a nice view
Then I open internal and sd card storage and delete all unwanted garbage!
(or cut and paste them into a S3 folder on my pc for future...if needed).

I do this from time to time as well, except my laptop is only 16" diagonally, lol

my dual monitor setup is a 120" projector and a 40" lcd... put that in your pipe and smoke it LMAO!!!!
