Root [Sprint/Cricket] quick question before i root (LI3)

can you recommend a tutorial that would work with my baseband version? ugh i wish i didnt accept that ota now lol

This is what I would do. I would downgrade the modem to a previous one to make sure I could root. Since you're not already rooted see if you can revert your modem to something previous using ODIN.

Download here --> [Modem/Baseband] Sprint GS3 Flashable Radios LEN | LF9 | LG2 | LG8 | LI3 - xda-developers.

If you can get that to work then you can go ahead and root.

I used this method to root when I was on LF9 How to Root the Sprint / T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S III - YouTube.

I used this method to root when I was on LG8 How to Root the Sprint / AT&T / T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S III - Latest - YouTube.

I'm sorry I couldn't be any other help to you. I hope this works out for you.

EDIT: I got this from a mod in another post. I believe this will work for you!

If that fails, there's a way to completely reflash to LEN (release day firmware) by using Odin. Go to this video and download the links (and follow the video instruction if you need it):

You can root any baseband version of the Sprint GS3. I rooted on LI3. The link you posted will walk you through it.

To summarize the instructions:

1) Download all the files

2) Place CWM_SuperUser_v3.0.7.zip on your phone (not an external SD card)

3) Extract Odin.

4) Put the clockwork.tar file in the odin directory.

5) Install the drivers (if you haven't already, the link is in that post you linked)

6) Boot the phone into download mode (turn off, then hold vol down, home, then power)

7) Follow the prompt to accept that you know that you can screw up your phone if you do something wrong.

8) Open Odin, connect your phone to the computer

9) Sit tight while drivers install. You'll know when it's done when Odin says COM## (where ## can be any number, even single digits).

10) When you see com##, click on PDA and find clockwork.tar.

11) Uncheck Auto reboot. If your phone reboots into Android, you have to do this all over again.

12) Click start

13) Wait for it to finish. It'll say DONE above the COM##

14) Unplug and pull out the battery after DONE. There is no timelimit.

15) Replace the battery and go into recovery (vol up, home and power)

16) Flash CWM_SuperUser_v3.0.7.zip

17) Reboot. Verify root is set up correctly by open Superuser and swipe to the left and update the binary. You may have to update the Superuser app in the Play store before this is available.

Thank you because I honestly had no clue, lol. I'm used HTC and the rooting method being different with each version so I was trying to be as safe as possible :)

Since HTC did the encrypted bootloader and unlock method, rooting seemed to get unified on HTC devices. Samsung devices are just a simpler process.

pretty much a 1 click root thing, but not really. its the easiest device ive ever rooted. Theres a video out there by qbking77 on youtube, and the only flaw in it is the f.reboot being checked part. He says to leave it checked, and you shouldnt have it checked. Youll see what i mean when you open Odin... its super easy man

Sorta lol just add the file and press one button
