Root [Sprint/Cricket] Rom Suggestion? Jellybean and LTE needed.

I want the ability to tether, but I need LTE and Jellybean.
Anyone have suggestions on a custom rom?
While I have the most recent update, I'm not thrilled with the battery life.
 
I don't think there is any JB rom that free tether works with yet.
I'm sure the Root Boyz will weigh in on this though.

No tether app works with Jellybean as of yet. I'm getting great battery life with the stock Jellybean. Probably because I'm always connected to WIFI. But even on 3G I get about 8 hours as opposed to 12+ heavy use on WIFI.

Which apps do you use? One thing people don't know is that certain apps run constantly in the background. That's how they were developed. For example, the Facebook (poorly developed) app won't shut off unless you log out.
 
Stupid question, but is LTE built into all Sprint Rom's now?
Many of the Rom's from my EVO 4g days only had 3g.

The capability is there for all Touchwiz based roms and I believe most (if not all) CM/AOSP based roms for the Sprint S3. The switch between 3G and LTE is sorta wonky on some CM/AOSP roms, however.

Referring to the EVO 4G, that phone used 4G-Wimax which was a separate radio altogether (2500 frequency) unlike 4G-LTE which is on the 1900 frequency which is used for voice and data already. If the rom didn't come from US (example most Chinese roms that didn't have a CM base), it wouldn't include Wimax.

There has been an issue with wifi tether on jellybean since jellybean came out. I'm not aware of any fix. The app just has to be ironed out of bugs.
 
Just got my S3 from Sprint. I'm using Odexed Blue, with the Apex Launcher. Seems very nice. Has Wireless Tether built in. Uses stock kernel. It's built on the latest 4.1.1 release.

Just wondering, are you getting 4G in the Bay Area on your S3?

I'm wondering because my girlfriend gets 4G connection all day long on her Note 2 and I don't get any 4G signal on my Evo 4G LTE. I'm thinking of switching over to an S3, which the tech said has a stronger antenna as the Evo 4G LTE, but not the Note 2.

Does your gf get 4g signal or LTE signal? They are not the same. Your phone will be capable of either/or, but not both.

I'm not quite sure what you're referring too, but if your phone is 4G-LTE capable, then you're only going to get LTE.

The other poster might be referring to the antennas in the phones. They are both LTE capable but probably aren't trade by the same company meaning one could pick up signals stronger than the other.

I still lost as to what you originally were asking.

Stupid question, but are you both on the same carrier? I know that Sprint users get a higher priority slot on the towers.
 
think i found fix for wifi dropping intermitantly. not sure if anyone posted this yet, but I turned off connections manager for galaxy s3 and wifi tether has not kicked me off period. and it even stayed on overnight while I slept and it still is working this morning. hope this helps others that have been annoyed by this problem.
 
It depends on where I am. I live in the Mountain View area and sometimes the 4G icon comes on and other times I don't have it. My understanding is the LTE is a work in progress in the Bay Area.

Sorry I quoted the wrong person. I was responding to gilbequick who said that 4G and LTE are not the same and that I'd get one or the other (but not both). We both have LTE phones, so any 4G signal we'd get would indeed be LTE.

And yes, we are both on Sprint. She has the Note 2 and I have the EVO 4G LTE. Our phones can be literally right next to each other and she'll get 4G signal while I can only maintain 3G signal. I was wondering how other Bay Area Sprint customers are faring with 4G lately. Trying to determine if her Note 2 has an unusually strong antenna or if my EVO 4G LTE has an unusually weak antenna.

You could try KToonsez's kernels. He offers a TW or AOSP version. Both of which have been favorable to my battery life, granted I only used TW for maybe an hour or two before I switched to AOSP. Much better experience overall, imo.
