Root [Sprint/Cricket] Status 7 error when I try to install a rom?

I've rooted my phone a few weeks ago and that process went fine, and I can back up as I should be able to, yet any time I try to install a ROM I get a (Status 7) Installation aborted error. I've tried searching but came up with nothing as to what to do.

Phone is a U.S. Cellular S3 with CWM 5.5.0.4

I know this isn't the USC sub-category, but that section doesn't exist and I followed the Sprint rooting guide so I figured this would be the most logical place to post.

its not that, its just that this forum is quite dead from time to time, seems like im one of the very few who reply. Anyways, what have you tried after the failed install? What ROM are you trying to install? Are you installing from CWM or Odin? Have you tried the TWRP (team win recovery project) Have you tried a fresh download of the ROM? did you put it on the internal, and if so have you tried installing it from the external sd card? Or vice versa? Have you tried transferring the file via a different cord? Have you downloaded the zip directly to your phone as to avoid the possibility of a transfer eff-up occurring altogether? Sorry to inundate ya with a barrage of ??'s, just tryin to see where yer at man :)

Oh, and is the method of rooting the EXACT same for both devices? I only ask cuz the recovery file used for install might be slightly different (doubtful, but who knows?) and the roms for USC and Sprint are definitely different.

Thanks for all the questions, good to get a response. :D
I ended up getting it to work by installing a newer version of CWM, which is what I was using. works great now.

glad to hear youre up and running now man :) i guess if nothing else, those ?'s are what one should check/redo if something goes awry. Its a bevy of what to try next when something went wrong :)

Status 7 errors usually occur with a bad zip file or errored out flash. Try re-downloading the ROM and flashing again.

Keep in mind that some ROM's are incompatible with CWM and require TWRP.

I am having same problem just rooted last night. Got it running FactoryROM but I want CM 10 since it was just put out in stable form. I tried to flash 9.1 and 10 both got error 7. I dont understand tried to download CM10 through Rom Manager and it gave me the GSM one so I had no service got the VZW one from cynogenmod.org and get the error, reflashed Factory try and put it on after than and still same thing.

What service do you have? Flashing a ROM for another carrier version phone is a bad thing to do. Check the sticky where I compiled the ROM list. There are all the roms for the SPRINT variant of the S3.

You would have to look in the Nexus S 4G page. Being that this is for the Galaxy S 3, the methods may not be the same. In any event, I re-iterate when I say that Status 7 errors are due to bad downloads or corrupted flashes. Try re-downloading the file and flashing again. If that does not work, try a different recovery image. TWRP/4EXT (if available) are highly recommended.
