Help sprint galaxy s4 firmware

Lurker
hello everyone, as you can tell i am new to this site. ive been lurking and learning for some time now, here and over at xda. im having a huge problem with my sprint issued galaxy s4. ill give all the background details and system info that i know to help you help me hopefully.

my phone was running 4.2.2 with zero problems. rooted with cf autoroot no problem. worked for 3 weeks. i received the OTA 4.3 notification yesterday morning. i attempted the update after i cleared googleframework data as advised. update appeared to go, however upon reboot it was still 4.2.2 and would not find and updates available. so, i connected into Kies and pushed the update that way. it was successful. no problems at all. upon reboot, i now had 4.3 unrooted completely stock. i noticed that when attempting to open apps like weather, browser, etc (normal apps) they would crash and never open. so i attempted a Factory Restore via the settings menu. this is where things go bad. the phone went through the reset without a hitch but when it started to boot up it gets permanetly stuck on the yellow sprint screen. only way to stop the cycle is pull the battery but as soon as its turned on its stuck again. so my first thought was to reflash back to 4.2.2 via odin. heres where the 2nd problems lies: every source i find for the stock firmware download is a pretty large file, and when it finally downloads IT WILL NOT UNZIP OR EXTRACT. so i cant even flash via odin because i can unzip the downloaded file to send into odin. i am running windows 7 64bit, i even tried 7zip program in attempts to get the file to open with no luck. i attempted to download from multiple xda forums,samsung-updates and rwilco12(.com). all fail to unzip. any thoughts, ideas, help would be great. im stuck with a 3 week old phone thats worthless, no insurance on the device, and no internet at home because my wife and i tether for internet source. luckily i kept her phone today so i can try and sort this mess out. any questions please ask. im sort of a noob but try to educate myself as much as possible on these things. i much appreciate anyway anyone could help.

i also just discovered that kies can restore to factory but it requires a serial number which is evidently found inside the phone settings which i cannot access due to the fact that it wont turn on. ive called sprint and they provided every type of number they have on file and kies will not accept any of them. looking for any bit of help guys. thanks again

The IMEI and Serial number can also be located under the battery on the device label.

Did you do a nandroid backup before updating? If so, you might want install a custom recovery and try to put that back on. I did that when I got the boot loop from the 4.3 update, too. I was also on 4.2.2 (MF9), rooted. That worked to get me back up, although it was still on the 4.3 level. I then used the Philz method/file to get firmly onto 4.3/MJA and have been solid since.

there is no serial number under the battery. i have tried every number in there. included letter, no letters, spaces, no spaces, etc etc.
