i personally dont use either. i am somehwat old fasioned in that i like to download roms to the PC,transfer them to the phone,then flash manually in recovery.
if you want to use any rom-manipulating apps,please make sure you have the knowledge to get to recovery and maipulate things manually. apps like rom manager,rom toolbox,etc. are apps,in a working rom,and as such arent available to you in the event of a splash hang or bootloop

I'm with you, I've never flashed anything through the toolbox, just used it for CPU and some other tasks.
