[Sprint] Huge Problem!

Hello -

I am seeking assistance from the experts. I am trying to root (sprint, build JRO03U) to whichever ROM- i'm not concerned with those specifics. The problem I am having is this -

During each method I've tried, when I get to the fastboot step to unlock the bootloader, I get stuck, with the root toolkit saying "waiting for device". I have manually updated drivers, however, when I go in to fastboot, the device manager ALWAYS shows "Android 1.0" and will not/can not update further. When I'm normally connected, the device manager shows "Android ADB Interface", as it should.

I've tried this on two PCs, updated drivers on both (running windows 7, 64-bit). I am absolutely stuck. Everything I've found further is total tech jargon (installing SDK, changing settings, etc), so I'm asking for help in explaining this further, dumbing it down for a non-tech guy to understand.

I really need for this to happen asap, as I just purchased a wifi-only tablet and I need to use WiFi Hotspot from the phone - and who really wants to pay $30/month to sprint for that technology?

Welcome to AF!!! I would definitely use the guide stickied here to root your Gnex, it's easy and to the point. It sounds like you may have a driver issue, I would give Mizzou's suggestion a try. Please keep us posted.
 
Thanks for the quick replies folks. For some reason, it took me 15 tries to update the samsung adb interface driver. but eventually, it worked, and then everything went as planned. I am now successfully unlocked and rooted, and my wi-fi tether screams!
 
Yeah I have heard recently of a bunch of people with driver issues (so glad I have a Mac and Linux) and the best solution I have found is what Mizzou said with the PDAnet drivers.

EDIT: Mizzou can I link your dropbox in the root guide, I should probably update it with that fix.

Currently I am running Kings Froyo Unleashed on my old Evo because I have yet to get my Nexus fixed because I have been on the road. I should have it fixed tomorrow though. On my Nexus I am running CNA 3.8 with Franco's kernel, I have been really busy with school but I am now finished so I will be becoming more active again.

No problem, I'm here to help. Also yeah I figured I was throwing back phones so I should have a throw back ROM. Froyo ROMs were amazing especially with the likes of King, Mik, and Myn.

Wow that was like the 3rd ROM I ever flashed on the evo.
 
No they told me they were looking at the software and saw that it was rooted. Then they warned me that it voided my warranty and if I ever had to send it in to Samsung they wouldn't fix it. I told them I knew that, but they would never know it was rooted :) Also the USB port was fine, it just had a bunch of stuff stuck in it like pocket lint and such that caught on fire. It killed my USB cable but the port was fine once they got all the burnt stuff out.
 
Wow, good to hear. I didn't know you could get that much stuff in there to ignite. Or at least smolder.

I may have to try out King's on my Evo though. I think I have King's R5 rom. or at least something like that.
 
If you can, try to find some of his Froyo stuff I think R5 was a gingerbread ROM. If you can't find any I can send you his Froyo Unleashed ROM.
 
Okay so the internet connection I uploaded it on was a little in and out so I can't verify if it works or not but here is a link. Once I get home I can re-upload it but that won't be for a couple of days :(

Just wanted to Thank You again Urge.
Last night I flashed a couple of Roms on the 4G. Kings Froyo Unleashed, which was awesome!, and then Kinged Hate Slinger 2.1 which was Sense 3.0 based.

I still have Kinged Double Shot in my card which is the first rom I ever flashed and only used it for 8 minutes.

Unleashed is a really nice looking Rom and I can understand why you go to it. Great Theming and I like the text as it's flashing. Good stuff.

Well I'm not getting much help on the GNex general forum so I figured I might get some help here. I got a replacement because my USB port started acting up again and the replacement is having more USB issues but in a different way.

I think I might just bring it in, tell them it was dead on arrival and get another as well as pick up a new charger just incase thats the issue. I don't think it is though because I have tried more than one charger.
 
Urge, sorry to read this.

It sounds like a charger issue to me. You've used a different cable and also a different wall wart?

I suppose it could be the same problem as you already have. I'm sure you wouldn't be the first one to get a refurb with the same issue as the one it was replacing.
