Question to all, will sprints ics ota to it's evo 3d users be a good thing for us virgin mobile users?

It's possible and I think likely - that it will offer no more functionality than we currently have with ICS 4.0.3 and Sense 3.6

But we will see...

Yes I agree with you but if the hardware is equivalent will it be a good thing for us as far as developing goes

For that we need the kernel source for evo v. The 3d update probably won't help with aosp compatibility.

K, off topic here but just flashed cm9 on my old optimus v, makes me want it even more for the evo:( . On the upside I've had the optimus v for a year, hopefully as much good will come out of the evo v in that kind of time frame

As always, doesn't matter what phone it is even when the 3D gets ICS any port will have problems because of the wonky way that Virgin uses for MMS. This has always been an issue, but if nothing else it may give our devs something to build on.

I think mms would work on cm9..even if it was a 3d rom..I remember jmz saying something about cm adding something or other to source

I agree, I think if we are patient we will see a cm9 rom and possibly more soon enough.

..or if there are enough of us impatient, we could start a donation pool to entice someone to get going on it sooner.wouldn't have to be alot of money per individual if we got enough people

For MMS, we would just have to swap the sms dispatcher.

I agree..I like that idea..I think we should contact jmz...he builds cm9 by source for the og evo..maybe he could build for us?

I will send him a pm when I get a break from work

From what I've seen, Donation pots don't work. All they do is encourage everyone to work alone and not share their code so they can get the full reward. See the beginnings of the hp touchpad development for a good example. That was a complete mess.

Yes projects should be worked on if you want to, it's a hobby not a job. Donations should only be received if someone was that grateful for your work, it should not be expected or an 'enticement' for a project.

Yes, these are very good points, I agree..definitely two sides to the coin

Snake x..didn't the warp users do the same to get hroark? Lol come on guys ..

Do either of you guys have a linux setup to build cm from source?

No offense but there is nothing wrong with donating to a talented developer to get a phone and get cm off the ground..then other users pitch in and help as much as possible ..just my thoughts...no harm intended

I'm with you johnny, not that I don't see snake and koopa's side. However I don't see anything wrong with getting the ball rolling.. besides in the end it's up to the dev. I wouldn't be offended if someone offered to pay me for my skills.

That was to get the dev the phone in the first place not to pay him to work on the program.. :p

edit: gotta go off topic sometimes but I don't see why the one v is a phone worth going to.. smaller screen size, single core 1 ghz and only 480 x 800 (similar specs to the warp i had which gave me issues and was laggy)

When I had the idea it was more along those lines, to get the dev an evo V (30 people donate $10, 60 $5) <--although this isn't as easy as it sounds I think it is attainable

Snake I agree on the one V, I would guess majority of Optimus V users are going to upgrade to the Evo 3d..I had been checking their site frequently for new phones because I didn't want to give in for the triumph. Low and behold I was in best buy for something else and saw this phone, grabbed it the next day.

lol we will agree to disagree...

to donate a phone to a developer who specializes in building cm..never meant to pay a developer to develop something sort to say..

again snake i would have to refer to warp users who donated a phone to hroark..who SPECIALIZES in Cyanogen builds.:p .but neither here nor there..no point in disagreeing over a developer who probably is to busy as is to work on the Evo v..i know jmz builds for OG and now i here the one V.. so all is well my friend..

on another note i am not all that impressed by the One V..pound for pound as far as hardware goes i would say that the one v is no match for the Evo V.i guess it all comes down to development and software..the Prevail was the same way..a sad piece of Samsung hardware..but with the right software could hang with the biggest and baddest of phones

i would absolutely be willing to donate..it makes no difference to me who..as long as they can help jumpstart development for our phone..

me too, so how would we go about this..Start a thread for raising donations and then put the offer out when a goal has been reached?

well first you would wanna get a show of hands to see who would be willing to donate..because you don't wanna end up with like three people who are willing and no one else..granted times are tough and not everyone would have money to donate understandably..then you would wanna get with a certain developer who would be willing to invest his time also..which is tough because most people are busy with real life..then you would go official with a thread..and list names of who donated and the goal and the current bench and all that good stuff..once the goal is reached the dev. would go buy the phone and the fun/work begins..

but like i said you would want to get some idea of how many people would be willing to donate..other wise like koopakid was saying, it could be a giant waste of time if there is only a few people enthusiastic and no one else lol
