Root [Sprint] In need of stock firmware

Hello all,

I've lurked on these forums for quite awhile but I registered because I need some help. The battery in my Samsung GV (sprint) expanded and damaged my screen, my problem is that my phone is rooted and I can't send it in for an in-warranty repair until I restore the stock firmware. Problem is I don't have the stock firmware and all of the guides and forums I've found pertaining to stock firmware no longer have the files available. Does anyone actually have the stock firmware or know where I can obtain it? If not I have a couple of other GV's that have the stock firmware that I could use to obtain the stock firmware if anyone knows how to do that?

well if the phone still works, but the screen is busted that actually isn't too hard to fix, just download this then put the phone into download mode as usual and flash it over odin, of which no you won't need to see the screen, it should from what I remember vibrate when you've done it right and then hit volume up to confirm download mode and that should work.

if I may ask what brand is the battery and where did you get it from?
it's nice to know what to avoid, in case I or someone else here decides that they also want to get an extended battery.
 
The battery is the stock one, I noticed at some point that my Victory was getting kind of warm during minimal use. A little while later I noticed that there were some white spots on my phone's screen, they are similar in appearance to pressure marks on a laptop screen. After some research I've come to the conclusion that the spots appeared due to the battery malfunctioning and expanding which put pressure on the screen. My phone is still under warranty from Samsung so I would just as soon send it in to them for repair, saves me the time and hassle.

Also, I did root the phone on my own but I'm not familiar with unrooting it, can I simply use the file you provided and follow any of the various unrooting guides so I don't screw anything up? Is it basically the same as rooting the phone except with different files?

oh I see, somehow I misread that as "extended battery" so I thought you bought a custom battery, as for unrooting it...
here to make it easier, first go here and download the Samsung driver and also Odin.
(also if you haven't already, download that .md5 file)

it will be slightly harder since you can't actually see what you're doing but if you follow the guide then it will say "added" in the message box, within odin which means you've done it right and you can then do everything else on your computer from there on, this will flash your phone to the very old stock ICS rom, so make sure nothing is important on your phone as everything will be deleted.
 
I wonder if this thread might also be the answer I'm looking for.

I bought a "stock" Sprint Victory through eBay and much to my surprise (sarcasm), it's not exactly as advertised.

The box shows this as a no contract phone, if it makes any difference

I want to setup this phone on FreedomPop for a complete non-techie.

I have an SIII with them and I'm very happy with it.

When I first powered it up, I immediately tried to do the Sprint OTA upgrade that was available. At reboot, I knew that something wasn't quite right when I saw the Team Win Recovery screen.

I immediately rebooted to the system.

The phone shows

Android 4.1.2

If I try to activate through FreedomPop, is it likely to work? If so, then I really don't care about it being rooted.

If not, will the instructions in this thread return me to stock?

it "should" work just fine, however as far as I'm aware you can't OTA update with TWRP so... you'll have to:
1) leave it as is, but then it'll nag you/your friend to death about updating. (though you can use an App manager to freeze system update)
2) install the stock recovery, (could be a tad tricky) then OTA update.
3) flash the stock rom, then go through multiple OTA updates.
4) or lastly you can try this http://androidforums.com/sprint-victory-4g-lte-all-things-root/848444-ota-update-l300vpbnd4.html and it should update the phone to ND4 through TWRP.
 
oh yeah, one more thing to note, go on Freedompop, go through the BYOD setup process then check and be sure it will activate, since you bought it off ebay, just be aware that not every phone will activate, so whenever you buy a used phone there is always a risk that it may not activate, even if it has a clean ESN and no registered accounts linked to it, not often but it will sometimes fail.

Option #3 sounded the least obnoxious, (the words"nag", "tricky" and "should" scared me off the others) so that's the route I went.

It worked perfectly and now, it's all set up with FP.

I appreciate the help.
 
the fix for this is easy go into download mode on phone power+vol down
download the tar from sammobile.com samsungs support site for tar downloads flash it through odin BOOM FIXED i have a vm but i used the tar file for sprint my phone still works perfect using sprint tar on vm but this i can say will fix it it did mine and stock would be there update so no worries

The sprint partition tables didn't break your data or WiFi or Bluetooth on the VM victory? Nice find.
 
i have done everything i normally would do when i install a new rom if theres a way to copy my build props to send a copy so u can look at it i will i used everything from bt wifi 3g/4g both txt calls and actually smoother then vms stock




one more thing when i did all of this i still had twrp 2.6*** recovery but im sure odin bypasses it and twrp will root

Good to know. It didn't re install the stock recovery? I know Odin flashes firmware from sammobile but I didn't think the sprint ROM would work on VM. Glad to hear it didn't Bork radios.
 
well i found an issue theres absolutely no roms for the sprint version on nd4 or kernals other then stock
 
yeah that isn't new... there's never been any fully functional roms for the Sprint victory, the VM roms do work though, however data (and possibly other issues such as calls/texts) don't work, so those are only useful if you plan on using it as a Phablet, for the kernel however the Vaevictus OC kernel works just fine with the stock rom, haven't test any of other one.
