Root [Sprint] lg g2 brick

justmoh

Lurker
so I recently rooted my lg g2 and it went smoothly no problems. so I downloaded the app the changes the phones font but when I tried it asked me to reboot my phone so I agreed and then when it did the sprint logo appeared and kept looping. so I hard reset it thinking it would help. It didn't now only the lg logo will appear and it goes directly to a black screen. If anyone could help I would greatly appreciate it

i can not reboot whenever I hold the power and down volume button the lg logo appears then I let go and the red LED shows up with a blank screen. Also I can hold up and power and it says firmware update but it hasent mover from 0 present in a couple mins

Long press (up to 30 seconds) the power button to get the phone into a fully powered off state if you are unable to boot into the OS. If you still cannot enter recovery at that point, your recovery may be borked.

It sounds like you ARE able to access download mode however and that's a good thing. When it says the part about firmware update, it's waiting for you to initiate an install so the fact its staying on 0% is normal. If you absolutely cannot access recovery, then reflashing stock using LG Flash Tools would be your next best bet imo and that is done in download mode.

Be sure you're obtaining the Sprint .tot and .dll file of course. I didn't verify the version but I'm guessing this will flash you back to 4.2.2 at which point you can root again if desired. I'm sure you already saw this coming but you will be losing all data on your phone at this time.

okay iv got the flash tool working and the dll file but i downloaded the most recent .tot file im not sure if the was the wrong idea but it tells me when i click the yellow arrow on the flashtool it says "bin crc check..." then it says "failed previous load " is it because i downloaded the wrong .tot file or maybe i need a different .dll file?

Did you first d/l the newer megalock dll and swap it with the one in C:\LG\LG Flash as per the back to stock instructs?

If so, then I'm not sure about the forward compatibility of the newer tot's with that posted dll. I would have thought it'd work actually. But to be on the sure side, I might instead d/l the tot that was posted in Sept, 2013. That was the original dll and tot that was posted so if you're having troubles maybe give that a shot.

okay it has started letting me into recovery mode where i can choose from reboot system now, apply update from exteral sd card, apply update from cache, apply update from from ADB , wipe data/factory reset, and wipe cache partition. i already tried wipe data / factory reset and i still get the same issue as earlier. Im still having the issue with the LG flash tool but i though i thought i would let you know about this.

I finally figured out my problem. It was that my old pc sucked. I tried all the things above on my laptop. and it worked rather smoothly . I really appreciate the help thanks so much :):):):):):):)

So what would you recomend i do to prevent this from happening again? Im backing up my phone now on titanium backup . Is there anything else i should do

Great idea using Titanium. Always add a nandroid backup to that list, it is the biggest help of all since its an exact snapshot of your entire phone at the time its made. That's done by using the backup option in TWRP or clockwork, whichever you are using for your custom recovery.

If you want to be over the top safe, occasionally copy the contents of your Titanium folder and your TWRP folder to your PC. If your internal storage ever gets borked beyond repair or if you absolutely can't get to your custom recovery, you can redo the procedure you just finished and afterward, pull your backups to the phone to avoid having to set everything from scratch. Because as you've seen, a complete return to stock wipes your internal storage/virtual sdcard. Its a last resort but one you needed to embark upon under the circumstances.

A final tip. Never factory reset a rooted phone unless you are doing so from your custom recovery AND you are planning to flash a custom rom directly afterward. The typical bailout plan for major issues is the nandroid restore, provided that TWRP is still accessible via the external button press combo.

How To Install and Use ADB, the Android Debug Bridge Utility

(you don't need any of the API's, just tools. You'll see what I mean there in one of the screenshots)

That's not a great sign. There is another way, but it involves the use of ADB and it will also require some "dd" commands which not everyone is comfortable with.

The good thing is that TWRP has a built in terminal for the issuance of commands. The bad news is you'd ideally want to use ADB in order to push some necessary image files from a PC to your phone's sdcard partition so that you could then recreate them using DD commands. You can effectively restore the download mode, at which point you could reflash stock.

If you got adb working, I could type out how to go about all this but to be very honest, and as much as I hate linking folks away from these forums...you might be best off to do all this in IRC in realtime. It's not exactly a quick nor easy procedure so if you have questions along the way, you can get help fast and in the moment.

If interested in that, go here:
freenode Web IRC (qwebirc)

Enter nickname as whatever you want. In the channel box, enter #lg-g2, complete the captcha and you will be in the G2 channel. You can pose your quandry there and get some help from the IRC gang. Best time to get maximum help would be a weeknight from mid evening to midnight.

Let me know what you want to do and I can adjust from there.

could not figure out adb but i did find and used the comand and pluged in the scriped now download mode is their ... but if i reboot its stuck on the lg logo ... cant go to twrp... im hooping this is normal.... i found the stock kdz fil for the phone ... but some how the tutorial on flashing the stock rom ...is not working for me ...im not sure if im doing something wrong .... its a d803 rogers Canadian....

if i plug the phon in pc with volume up it gose to download mod not sure if my pc sees the phone ....wondering why the drivers for it.. always fail to install .. kinda worried
.... sorry for the spelling my french is probably just as bad..... i have insurance on it just last case senario ....

Yeah the D803 is the Canada model. So that's good news that you have download mode working. I think where you're coming from it might be best to return to stock. You can find files and instructs for that here:

Restore Stock G2 Firmware - Pastebin.com

Follow the link to acquire the files for the D803. You'll want the .dll and the .tot file for this procedure. I believe you'll have to extract the zip file listed there to get the .tot file you use in the flashing procedure.

If you run into any driver issues, you can try some of the drivers listed here:
Listing of Drivers

Perhaps one of the earlier releases of the LGunitedmobile drivers would be a good start.

So in summary:
1.) download the LG Flash Tools software to your PC
2.) download the D803 .tot and .dll files to your PC
3.) use the linked tutorial with pics to do the return to stock procedure
4.) if you run into problems getting phone recognition, try using some of the available driver files, then retry the return to stock procedure
