[Sprint] Premier Gold Yearly Upgrades

any employee discounts do not count against you in terms of being considered gold or silver membership.. but im confused now.. i texted the sprint number to see when im eligbile for my full upgrade and it says june 1st 2011, which is about a year since i got my evo.. now is this taking into consideration the fact that they are changing things up on april 1st, in other words if i for some reason do not qualify for gold membership will i then be bumped back to 22 months for a full upgrade.... also what is the minimum base fee for evo, i believe its $89 or was it $80 ?

From my understanding of it, the current date indicated for eligible upgrade will still remain, but after next upgrade, the new upgrade eligibility status will apply.

^^
Thanks! I hope you're right! I've heard the same from a few others, too... so I am leaning in that direction. If this is the case, I really wont be too upset, because we should all get one more annual upgrade. Now lets hope this is right! :)

I just got off the phone with Sprint and was able to confirm this. I was very specific, and was told even though I purchased my EVO in June of 2010 I am eligable for an upgrade in June of 2011. I said, "so, essentially, I still get one more annual upgrade before the new rules take into effect." The rep said, "Yes, that is correct." So... Im petty darn happy about this! :)

Honestly, it's really not that big of a deal. It just seems like they're reverting back to the "old" format of upgrades. The thing is, the old format for upgrades was after 1 year, you'd get $75 that you could use towards upgrade (i.o.w. 1/2 upgrade).

Nontheless, it wouldn't apply to me since I've been with Sprint for over 10 years, but I'm sure it would be different for many others.

Are you saying that after April 1st, for those of us who bought the EVO on launch day, we will still be eligible for an upgrade in June? Then after we upgrade, the new plan goes into effect? I was told by Sprint that as of now, my upgrade date is June 1st, but it will reset after April 1st. For me this would mean after April 1st I can not upgrade until Nov., which is when I reach my 10 years with Sprint. I'm a little confused here.

april 1 is for new contracts.. they have 2-yr-upgrade.
all current customers have 1 more 1-yr-upgrade! after you use that last upgarde.. you revert to 2-yr-upgrade path.

So if I read this correctly....
if you have an upgrade due before april 1 and/or sitting on your current upgrade...
If you use it before April 1.. you will get one more 1-yr-upgrade!

here is me guessing:
legally...I dont think they can take away an upgrade that you EARNED.
Get a lot of trouble for that!

Sh@t!!... me too. I forgot all about the 10 year thing. Thanks for reminding me. Im fine either way, but glad for all the people here who arnt in the 10 year "club", as they will get one final 1 year upgrade!

I just got off the phone with Sprint and they said I will still get my upgrade in June. I just hope there is a EVO 2 waiting for me in June.

I think you're partially correct.

If you're currently a Gold Premier customer (under the guidlines outlined on Sprint's website), then a re-set date wouldn't apply.

If you're currently not a Gold Premier customer (under the guidlines outlined on Sprint's website), then it's possible that they'd reset the upgrade date based on the new structure.

Honestly, for those that aren't Gold Premier, I would seriously consider calling Sprint just to verify (that is, if you're antsy to get a new phone by June).

I think I will email ecare just to be on the safe side. Calling CS sometimes you might get 3 or 4 different answers.

ok so what is the base plan for the evo (i.e. what is the cheapest possible plan you can have for an htc evo) ?

and if its true that i only get one more year upgrade until i revert to the 22 month full upgrade status (if i dont qualify as a gold premier member) then i am waiting for a phone to be available on sprint that i know will kick ass for a long time (at least a year and a half) just like my evo did and is continuing to do

Um...not to throw fuel on the fire, but this talk about being eligible one more time after April 1 doesn't match what Sprint says on their website. If you go to premier.sprint.com and click through to the FAQ, one of the items is:

Effective 4/1/11:
  • Sprint Premier Gold accounts will continue to receive the annual upgrade benefit based on maintaining a 3-month average of $89.99* for individual plans or $169.99 for shared plans, or for 10+ years service. Gold accounts will receive one annual upgrade per qualifying plan.
  • Sprint Premier Silver accounts:
    • If the line qualifying for an annual upgrade is 22 months from the last upgrade, there is no impact. The line would continue to be eligible for an upgrade under Sprint's New For You upgrade program, which allows eligible customers to upgrade every 22 months.
    • If the line qualifying for an annual upgrade is 12-21 months from the last upgrade, the upgrade must be used by March, 31, 2011. Otherwise, effective April 1, 2011, the upgrade eligibility on that line will be changed to 22 months.
    • If the line qualifying for an annual upgrade is less than 12 months from the last upgrade, their upgrade eligibility will be changed to 22 months.
    • To check your upgrade eligibility go to Sprint - Upgrades.
So...seems that the Evo owners won't qualify?

If dagatech is correct in this, will this be enough of a change to get out of your contract? I for one got the EVO in June with the one year upgrade in mind, I would have waited until November and looked at the other carriers when my contract was up if I knew I could not upgrade again in June. The one year upgrade is one of the main reasons I stay with sprint.

im so confused but whats even worse is that for such a simple question you would have to go through ten different sprint representatives just to get a solid answer

Hmmm. I have an upgrade I've been sitting on since December 1, 2010. The last time that line had been upgraded was in February of 2008 (it is my parents' dumbphone line upgrade). They way I read it, since I've already accrued the upgrade (+21 months) then I get to keep it. I guess I need to find out whether or not I need to use it before 3/31. I'm happy with what I have, but hey, if something I'm interested in does come out I'd like to have that option open :D

It is a fact that Sprint is changing their upgrade policy 4/1, depending on your plan & length of service with them. What is not clear (to me) is whether those people eligible for an upgrade today will still be eligible 4/2 if they won't qualify for gold status. There seems to be conflicting information between what their website says & what the reps are saying.
As I understand it if you upgraded 6/10 you will have to wait 22 months (til 1/12) to upgrade again. I'd suggest looking over your contract to see exactly what it says about upgrade eligibility. If indeed it says you will qualify for an upgrade after 12 months & Sprint retracts that I would think you would be able to get out of it. After all, if we signed a 22 month contract & tried to get out of it at 12 months they would laugh at us, right before they handed us the bill for the ETF. Surely Sprint has run this concept through their legal dept & knows exactly what they're doing though.

This bugs me. My mom was the primary for 9 years or so, but passed away six months ago and my dad is the new primary. I'm sure its going to go by his date.

I was thinking about the date (4/1/11) that this is all supposed to change. What if it's a ploy by Sprint that on April 1, they'll flip the script and say "April fools!" Then turn around and say Thank You to all the people that stuck around, despite hearing about this change, and to reward everyone for staying a Sprint customer, they'll automatically make everybody that kept their Sprint account a "Gold Premier" customer and the "Silver Premier" will only apply to new customers?
