[Sprint] Premier Gold Yearly Upgrades

That is definitely a different theory!
Here's another theory (hope!)...Maybe Sprint really does have some good stuff coming in the next couple of months. It would make sense to give us one last chance to upgrade after WMC & CTIA before they cut us silver people off for 2 years. One possible glitch in that theory is if the phones aren't actually available immediately or before 4/1. That would suck!

I was thinking about the date (4/1/11) that this is all supposed to change. What if it's a ploy by Sprint that on April 1, they'll flip the script and say "April fools!" Then turn around and say Thank You to all the people that stuck around, despite hearing about this change, and to reward everyone for staying a Sprint customer, they'll automatically make everybody that kept their Sprint account a "Gold Premier" customer and the "Silver Premier" will only apply to new customers?
That would be a heck of a birthday present for me! :D

Just trying to keep all the peeps hopes up who are looking at potentially dropping down to Silver Premier status.

I'm locked in for Gold, but feel bad when others can't enjoy in the potential future tech that will be available...Then again, most of those people would also probably move over to another provider, just to keep up with new tech...LOL.

I talked to a Premier rep (higher up than standard reps) and she confirmed that any available upgrade would be pushed to 22 months if the line is silver. That's also what is laid out in the faq

Effective 4/1/11:

* Sprint Premier Gold accounts will continue to receive the annual upgrade benefit based on maintaining a 3-month average of $89.99* for individual plans or $169.99 for shared plans, or for 10+ years service. Gold accounts will receive one annual upgrade per qualifying plan.
* Sprint Premier Silver accounts:
o If the line qualifying for an annual upgrade is 22 months from the last upgrade, there is no impact. The line would continue to be eligible for an upgrade under Sprint's New For You upgrade program, which allows eligible customers to upgrade every 22 months.
o If the line qualifying for an annual upgrade is 12-21 months from the last upgrade, the upgrade must be used by March, 31, 2011. Otherwise, effective April 1, 2011, the upgrade eligibility on that line will be changed to 22 months.
o If the line qualifying for an annual upgrade is less than 12 months from the last upgrade, their upgrade eligibility will be changed to 22 months.
o To check your upgrade eligibility go to Sprint - Upgrades.

FYI I emailed Dan@Sprint.com and complained a lot and threatened to go to Verizon because they changed the Premier system. They bumped my upgrade up to NOW. I got my Evo on launch day. :)

Fwiw, I have an upgrade on one of my secondary lines that I've been eligible for since 12/1. It is my parents' "dumbphone" line. It has been over 2 years since that line has been upgraded. I spoke to a supervisor who was very nice and helpful. He said that the new upgrade changes are effective on the primary line only. Since it has been over 21 months since that secondary line has received an upgrade and it was already on the 22 month cycle I will not lose that upgrade after 4/1. Thought this info might help someone else.

Thats cool. My only problem with that, is that there is nothing I want "now". I was anticipating something good going into the summer.

According to 1311, my upgrade date is 6/01/11.
According to the letter, if our upgrade date > 4/1/11, it will get reset to 22 months

Do you think they will reset your upgrade date to 22 months, if you dont upgrade in March?

My upgrade is 7/1/11. I currently have a Hero and have been dreaming of upgrading to the Evo or better. Does this change mean I can't upgrade on the original contract date that is stated?

Dude, just but the best phone now through upgrade and sell it on ebay and then wait and use that money to buy whatever phone comes out later

only problem..
I think you have to activate it on the line.. for 30 days or more...to get the rebate.

so you got the Hero in JULY last summer.. when the EVO just came out... and had 30 days to change your mind and get an EVO then...

well.. i hope you do get the upgrade.. I thought you would.
but from a lot of new information.... you might be out of luck.

The Evo was sold out everywhere I went. I was stuck with a Samsung Instinct that was failing fast. The Hero was my only real option. It hasn't been a completely horrible experience though. I rooted it, flashed Cm6, and I'm about to ugrade to Gingerbread. My issue is that I would prefer to have a phone that just works out of the box. If I get an Evo, I will root it, but only to delete the Sprint bloat. After this premier change though, I'm seriously considering switching to Verizon. They have a much better phone selection, and I prefer the NFL over Nascar any day.

Just finished talking to Sprint and learned this:

1) 12 month upgrades are still valid through March 31. If you're eligible on April 1, then its invalid unless you're a Gold Premier customer.
I complained that this was unfair since it is a change in contract in the middle of its term but the customer service rep said that Premier services are not in the contract. They are an added benefit Sprint provides and can change at any time.
2) Add-Ons do NOT apply towards the $89.99 requirement for Gold status. I was thinking I could add another $10 of service to my $69+10 but they said that wasn't the case.

So the bottom line is that I need to wait for my contract to expire in order to get the upgrade. I thanked the representative for their time and stated that I would be upgrading my phone with another carrier at that time.

I thought the new every 12 was the shrewdest way for Sprint to keep customers signing for another 2 years, year after year. Now that you'll be free to chose any network come upgrade time, what percentage will stay?

I agree, there is nothing I want now either. I told the rep my plans to get the next Evo around June and she prettymuch said that I could do that with this upgrade that she put in the system.

Are they going to change it again on 04/1/11?

Not according the the rep.

i got a letter in the mail from sprint saying that im silver status.. so goodbye to my one year upgrade.. now i gotta wait an extra 10 months.. so we better get gingerbread+new sense by june !!!!!!!

I would try to get that in writing. I know how Sprint works. They will promise you one thing over the phone and forget about it when it comes time to deliver. But for your sake I hope that does not happen.

I got the same thing, kinda pissed about it, I piggybacked as an add a line on another account for almost 4 years before getting my own... which I've had for the last 7 years, so combined I have been an account holder for 11, qualifying for the gold member. they don't see it that way. you know they did that to keep Evo owners from upgrading this year. they must think that stupid echo phone is going to draw a lot of people, else they have something better coming later this year...

If you sell your Evo you'd be able to cover a lot of the cost of buying the next phone straight up.

I am not sure how that works. Why would someone buy a used EVO from me.... for the same cost that I could buy a new EVO from Sprint(without contract)?

^^^ he said recover a lot of the cost.. not ALL of it!

sell online for $250 -325. depending on condition of phone.

Even if you got an $325 for you phone - 12% paypal+ebay - shipping... you would probably earn around $275. Top tier phone from Sprint costs $400-$450 off contract.

Also, when a phone good enough to replace the EVO hits the Sprint shelves.... I am 100% certain that a used EVO will not Fetch $325, even in mint condition.

I, as an EVO owner, had been planning on selling my EVO to recoup ALL the cost of my annual upgrade(Approx $200). I am sure quite a few EVO owners will be upset, when they go in for their annual upgrades.
