I have done this on 2 sprint note 3 with 4.4.2 and the latest firmware here's a direct link to the apk home page https://towelroot.com/ also if you want to tether https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.snclab.wifitetherrouter this also is proven to work with out sprint knowing I'm sure both will work with others there is no harm in trying if you try it please post saying if it works or not
