could someone help me with unlocking my samsung note 4 its locked to sprint. Would rooting unlock it for me.. IM TIRED AND CONFUSED PLEASE PLEASE HELP

If your phone is Sim locked, another carriers sim will not be recognized by the device.
Sim unlocked and unlocking the bootloader are different things.

Other than following the instructions for Inactive Devices in the link I posted for Sprint, there are unlock services on the web that you pay to get a unlock code.
Just checked and your model will not get 4g on Cricket

Would it be simple if I just switched to prepaid sprint
Take the phone to Sprint & see if they will activate it.

As long as it's free & clear, you shouldn't have any problems,Sprint service is your best bet.

Some of the other MVNO's that operate on Sprint's network are also compatible, but, you'll have to check their BYOD policy.
Boost/Virgin Mobile/Ting/Ring/Republic Wireless/RedPocket Mobile/Defense Mobile/Access Wireless are all MVNOs that are compatible:

Doesv anyone know hoe to use with Crickett without paying for a code
Do you really want to use this phone on Cricket, even though you'll only have 2G & 3G band support? This phone does not support Crickets' 4G LTE.

i tried sprint and no help
i have family members with at&t and metro So I just want to unlock it without paying for ut
If Sprint wont unlock the SIM your other option is a 3rd party that offers unlocking phones. Most (all?) charge a fee.

Some Sprint MVNOs that KOLIO listed will probably be able to activate it without unlocking.

there has got to be some way to unlock this myself

You've stated Sprint isn't cooperating.
You haven't shared with us why they aren't cooperating,so,there must be one or more of the conditions that haven't been met.
In the event you're eventually successful in getting the phone unlocked outside of Sprint doing it,don't be surprised if it still doesn't work.
Sprint is not granting you a SIM Unlock for a reason & my guess is while the phone isn't blacklisted, the original account is still active & the obligations have yet to be met (service contract,to be precise, still has time left on it).

Unfortunately, this is the risk you take when buying things like this from Craigslist.

There are a few reasons why a carrier won't issue an unlocking code because if all obligations are met they are required to give it to you. So, reason one, the phone is still under contract and the term or the early termination fee has not been paid. Second would be if the phone was connected to an account that is in arrears or in default. Third would be if the phone was reported lost or stolen. Finally, if it was a contract phone and the original owner claims they still are using it (still registered with Sprint) they won't give an unlock code to a 3rd party.

You could pay a service for an unlock code, but I can't say I'd recommend that. Some have had success with those services while others have lost their money and not had their phone unlocked.

Finally as @KOLIO pointed out, even if you manage to get it unlocked, if the reason why Sprint won't issue the code is for ANY of the reasons I listed above, they will (if they haven't already) blacklist the IMEI and then you'll not be able to use it on any carrier. Just because it works right now doesn't mean it will continue to work.

Sorry you're in this situation, but there's really no magical secret free unlocking mechanism. :(

Craigslist is a bad place to buy a phone as a lot of phones that end up there are stolen or not eligible to be carrier unlocked. If Sprint won't unlock it, then the phone is in some way blacklisted by them, which may include lost or stolen phone, unpaid contractual obligations, or something else. Enough alternatives have been offered that fall within the realm of legal. At this point the OP can choose either using an alternative already presented for a fee or contacting the seller and figuring out a way to satisfy Sprint's unlocking requirements.
