Root [Sprint] Victory no more!

It was kind of fun, I think while it lasted. But I have taken the plunge full time to the Moto X (unlocked) and ported my number to the Magenta and love it.

I bid thee farewell to this sub-forum. Might check in every now and then, but I do have a question, anyone have links so I can send my Victory back to rooted stock? The device might be quite useful as a WIFI-only device.

yeah if you just look a few threads down at "Updated Links for ROMs?"

this Official Unloved Device HitSquad should be stock rom/recovery for the sprint victory.

edit: oh yeah forgot to mention, apparently if you flash that "jb_factory reset.zip" you should be good, should reset the rom to stock and un-root, but I wouldn't know as I just recently got mine for use on Freedompop...

That's pretty old. There are many "jellybean" stock systems for this phone. You need the right system to match your modem and basebands. E.g. mc1, ma8.

"many"..? where...? because that and rwilco12 are the only two places I could possibly find, unless you're referring to the VM variant in which case, thats very unhelpful for us sprint users..

Ma8, mc1, and now nd4 are all jellybean aren't they? I could be wrong. But no I was only referring to sprint builds.

I would need to take it back to the MC1 stock. If its unrooted, fine...I can root it again and leave it rooted stock myself.

Unless the CM10 builds finally have fixed the wifi bug and lack of a working camera?

Since you guys are bouncing this around. Can some one walk me through on how to revert back to ICS. OUDHS has a stock ISC .tar file. Interloper mentioned something about jumping through a few hoops to revert back to stock, but never elaborated on that.
So do you just Odin the .tar file and you are good to go. What are the exact steps I should follow?

If I just use the JB zip mentioned above, do I need to unfreeze and/or reinstall the apps I have removed before running the zip file?

All this seems unclear, "place on your SD card and do what you got to do"?
TIA

I'm pretty sure the sprint victory doesn't have an Ma8 update, that and I think how it works for the sprint phone, (edit: actually I think it was LH1 and LJ9 are ICS and the other two are JB forgot about them.) MC1 is ICS and then update to ND4 for JB and then theres also MG5 which I guess was never finished but a few devs brought it out anyway, (apparently it also breaks MMS) I still don't fully understand it but its slightly different from the VM phones, which I'm still running the stock rom (actually a first for me) because I'm a tad more concerned about having issues getting it back to stock rather than bricking it.

yeah once you've flashed ICS on it you'll have to OTA update it to JB so an extra step or two which is a bit annoying but that also works, I don't know how to flash a rom with odin, but if you google "how to flash a rom using odin" should be able to find something, (this is also my first time using the tool myself, never had a android samsung device until now) as for the factory reset I would figure not... as long as you have the stock rom installed, I assume you can just flash it like any other update, put it onto your SD card, boot into TWRP or CWMR then click on install and select the reset.zip
that should revert it to stock, if not then I'm unsure...

Tried the jb_factoryreset.zip on the OUDHS site. No dice. TWRP will not flash it.

There is a recovery.img in the repository, does that have to be flashed via Terminal first before one flashes the reset .zip?

I would much prefer not have to use ODIN to take it back to unrooted stock. I have a pair of rooted stock backups and both of them appear to be borked somewhat since neither gets past the Samsung logo...which is a big bummer, hence the need to basically start all over again...

oh I see... oops my bad... here this took a minute to find but read the second post http://androidforums.com/sprint-vic...37472-galaxy-victory-struck-in-odin-mode.html
if that still doesn't work then I suppose you'll have to flash ICS using odin. (also supposedly that will revert it to 4.1.1?? uhh.. so you might have a few issues with that so you might have to just flash ICS anyway.. sorry but I don't see any way around it.)

about the recovery.img that will replace TWRP so thats something you should do last unless you actually need the stock recovery for something.

on a side note, good god there are so many broken links here.... and rather important/useful files no less..

My bad. The .zip is actually a TWRP/CWM Nandroid backup. So unzipped it, copied the folder and its contents to where you save nandroids and restored it from there.

Sucky thing is, it goes all the way back to LJ9. Anyway to take it back to MC1? Would prefer MC1 before I root it again and stay rooted stock with my Xposed module setup.
