Root Sprint vs. ME

I downloaded the rom and put it on my card. I wiped everything that you told me and proceeded to install. Before the install it aborted and it said that it couldn't open the file. It said the file was (bad)

Maybe try redownloading the rom again. Im wondering if the version of ra recovery is causing the issue. Do u have wifi u can connect to with the evo?

I'm connected to it now. Should I manually move the .zip over to the top of the sd or just do it in the phone?

Go to the android market on ur phone and search for rom manager. Download and install it. Then open the app and flash RA recovery. It should update it to 2.2 or 2.3. I just want to make sure the older RA recovery isn't causing the rom install issue.

Well, when I flash Clockwork it says error. I flash RA recovery as an alternate recovery. It is successful, but it doesn't update.

In rom manager does it show ra recovery as your current recovery? It should show version 2.2 or 2.3. If so reboot into recovery and try to flash the rom again.

Didn't realize there was a second page here, hehe. Where are you at now? Are you still having trouble flashing the ROM?

That's fine. You got an older version of RA that doesn't prompt you. It backed up what you needed. You can upgrade RA later, and your backup will still work fine. Don't worry about that right now. As for transferring the ROM zip to your Evo, do you have a card reader? What happens when you connect the phone to your computer?

I get all of the files like a usb, but I don't know how to give it top priority.

What do you mean? If you're seeing everything on your sdcard, then it works. Just put the file at the top level (as in, not in any folders).

If you're having trouble flashing RA 2.2.1 or 2.3 from ROM manager, use the PC36IMG.zip files. Have you tried that?

So I believe I had the clean install!! The homescreen is completely different and is all about the Sprint 4g. I'm going to call sprint and see if I can get it on the plan!

Cool :). Just really quick, go to menu->settings->about phone->software information, and let me know what you see.

When u connect ur evo to ur computer and it opens the main view of the sd card place the rom there. This is considered the root of the sd card.

Edit - disregard. U guys r fast

Good news :). Do you want exactly what you had before? If so, just restore your nandroid backup. I would suggest that you make a nandroid backup, right now, so you can easily go back to a sense ROM if you need to. If you want a clean slate of CM, you can get it from xda, like stevcha said. I can get a direct link for you if you need.

What's a kernel? Is it easy to get CyanogenMod back? The Sprint set up is already botherin me lol

Yeah you can get cm back. If you want you can restore your nandroid. Just reboot into recovery then select backup/restore. Select the backup and restore. Then reboot

I'm going to restore CM now. Will it get rid of any work I've just performed on the fone?

You won't lose your activation, if that's what you mean. You should probably backup your current ROM, though, just in case you want to easily go back to a Sense ROM.

You should also read the Rooting for Dummies guide, so that you understand what root is and how you would normally go about it. As your phone came rooted, you're step ahead, but you should understand what was done. You also might consider updating to the latest radio versions.

Thank you guys sooo much! I went back to where it belongs in CyanogenMod! I really appreciate all y'all have done :)
