Sprint will never have 4g in my area

This is my last VM/Sprint phone. I live in se va with one of the largest naval bases world wide.....Sprint dropped the ball on this one. We only have 4g in richmond....some 100 miles away. Im so pissed. Ill be moving to T-Mo shortly.

Sorry guys just wanted to gripe.
 
I'd suggest the $30 prepaid T-Mobile plan if you don't use too many minutes. It's cheap and you can also run a Nexus 4 with it.

Yeah. I work in IT and damn without 4g this phone takes a beating. I am looking at T-mobile and a Nexus 4 or LG 9. its just too bad they dont have a Evo for them.
 
Or just do some research and figure out what carrier offers the best signal and data availability. Sprint isn't so hot in my area so this will too be my last Sprint phone.
 
In my area, T-Mobile is even worse than sprint (or so my friends who have had T-Mobile tell me, and I trust their opinion). If I switch at any point in the future, it will be to straight-talk with AT&T.
 
Before getting the Evo, I was considering Straight Talk with the Galaxy Nexus. However, I looked into it and it turned out there were many rules, such as you can use a maximum of 100 mb in one day or else they will cut your service. T-Mobile's coverage says I have excellent 4g in my area, but if I go 50 miles to the left, I have 2g only. Their coverage isn't the best, but the $30 plan is hard to beat.
 
Sensorly user data seems to show 4G LTE lighting up around SE VA, specifically Norfolk VA. (This is user uploaded signal data, not Sprint map data, so areas not shown may just have never been logged and uploaded by Sensorly app users).

I'm not sure you'll see much on the base UNLESS a user runs the app on the base.

I live in the metro Detroit area and there's been no announcement yet but 4G LTE has been popping up (unofficially) all over the place and progress within the last month has been impressive IMO.

Not defending Sprint but looking forward to see how the Network Vision and 4G LTE upgrades will turn out, as it's long overdue, especially for my area. My wife has already been seeing 4G LTE on her SGS3 in the area, even though it's not officially announced :)

Edit 2: I believe you have an HTC EVO V 4G which is actually a WiMAX phone, not a 4G LTE phone. WiMAX is not expanding and Spring has commited to continue supporting existing WiMAX until 2015 ... however, LTE is what Sprint is now working on. 4G got off to a late start due to a bad bet on WiMAX which was their first try at 4G. LTE is the new player in town, you won't see 4G LTE on your current phone. Sorry.
 
The biggest drawback to T-Mo's $30 plan isn't the 100 minutes but because they don't have a 3G network once your throttling starts you go from 4G down to 2G/edge speed. :eek:

Wouldn't they just slow down the 4G speed rather than push you down to 2G? I thought it was that once the limit was reached, they slowed down data, not move you to 2G or 3G only.
 
That would still be using 4G slots on the tower, plus it's a lot simpler to just get you on 2G/edge.

I think sprint made a bad move in Sacramento. The WiMAX has always been choppy and that won't improve. And they still don't have LTE here. I think the bay and Fairfield has had LTE for over a year and it's slowly crawling this way. Meanwhile Sacramento is trying to sell LTE phones because the only WiMAX phone they have left is the galaxy s2. I think a lot of people here jumped ship. I'm starting to think sprint's 3g sucks too
 
Yeah no 4g here either and 3g is incredibly slow, 100kbps average. I think im going to switch to straight talk. I hear they have great coverage in my area plus you can used unlocked phones. A little more expensive, i think $45 for unlimited but 10 more dollars is worth the much better service.
