Best custom ROMs for Samsung Galaxy SII [Stable and performance optimized] : Tips For Droid

Will these work for the virgin mobile release of this phone? I don't see any roms listed here.

http://androidforums.com/galaxy-s2-...l-things-root-guide-updated-5-feb-2013-a.html

I'm getting this phone on Friday and want to put a rom on it but it MUST be stable. I'm upgrading from an Optimus V. I used Harmonia pretty much the whole time. I think I used the Mirage rom for a minute. Thanks for your help.

Yes, it will work but you have to flash the virgin mobile stuff for texting, phone calls, and other firmware/software stuff, plus it might not be as stable with being optimized for the galaxy s II. It will work, you just need to mod it with virgin mobile stuff!

Get the newest release of Midnight-Rom: GS 2 but not 1.04 because the newest one will be more stock with higher reliability!

What do you mean by flash it? This statement "Yes, it will work but you have to flash the virgin mobile stuff for texting, phone calls, and other firmware/software stuff" Please explain.

I don't remember having to do this for my Optimus V. Is the Midnight-Rom stable? Like REALLY stable.

Yes, it is and sorry i explained bad. http://androidforums.com/galaxy-s2-...347-guide-basic-wip-rooting-roms-newbies.html

This will help ^

Any virgin mobile rom will work perfect without any other flashing but if you install a sprint one then follow guide. Also called ( Custom Rom )

Thanks for the info. Have you used the Midnight-Rom. I'm guessing you have since you suggested it. Is it stable? I don't know if you used Harmonia for the Lg Optimus V but I NEVER had problems with it. The problems I have with that phone have been due to hardware specs NOT the rom itself. Are there are Cyanogen Roms for the Virgin Mobile version of the S2?

Just looked at your link I think may question may have been answered. Def. alot to read there. What happened to the ease of the Optimus!? Wow! I'll figure it out but DAMN! Seems to have gotten a bit more complicated...

Sorry for your frustration but also, i had the optimus v before hand and had the same rom, which was very good and yes i been using his roms for awhile. Had the evo v berfore and used his rom and now i've been using 1.04 on his new one and for you i would suggest version 1.02 or 1.03 or wait for his new release because version 1.04 has a lot of mods that make the user experience slow at times but is still snappy in general but you said you want a "stable" rom then go with either version 1.02 or 1.05/none modded when it comes out.

Also, the closet to CyanogenMod 10.1 is http://androidforums.com/galaxy-s2-...2-2-jdq39-03-06-2013-cm10-1-sph-d710vmub.html

It's not perfect due to porting but it's getting pretty close to perfect.

And finally for midnight rom all you need is root and this is said by the developer:

Best regards, Scott Sahinkaya

Installation instructions:

-Install the samsung drivers
-Download Odin
-Download ODIN JellyBean Restore (.exe, not .md5)
-Download Garwynn's recovery (tar version)
-Turn off your phone
-Hold power+volume down to get into download mode and hit continue
-Plug in your phone to your computer
-Run the Odin Jellybean restore on your phone. This will take a while.
-After that's all done, and your phone has rebooted, go back into Odin download mode, open the Odin program you downloaded, select PDA, choose the agat's recovery you just downloaded (should be a .tar file) and push agats recovery to your phone.

This will cause the yellow triangle, but that can be fixed using the included TriangleAway app.

How to flash:
-Turn off the phone again
-Hold power+volume up until the Samsung Galaxy SII logo pops up.
-Go into the mounts and storage menu and format the following: Cache, System, Data.
(Be careful not to format EMMC as will erase your internal memory card!)
-Go back and select install zip from SD card
-Choose zip from either internal or external depending on where you put the rom.zip file
-Flash it
-After it's done just reboot into system and enjoy!

Here is the links

Don't use any of the ROMs from the link you posted. The ROMs that you posted are for the international variant of the Galaxy S II. What you want to look for is ROMs for the Sprint version of the Galaxy S II (SPH-D710).

Wait, are you using virgin mobile phone and wanting a virgin mobile rom or do you have different sprint model. Or do you just want a sprint/custom rom

And now....MidnightRom GS2 Jellybean!

A supercharged GB28 stock ROM, with better memory management, more internal memory, and lots lots more!

MidnightRom: GS2 JB 1.0.4 <---- Download here!

Playstation Mobile <-- Extra

The included goomanager app automatically notifies you when there is a new ROM update! It uses virtually no memory at all, and updates can be downloaded directly from within the app!

First boot will take a few minutes

If you have any problems, questions, suggestions, etc, do not be afraid to ask!! =]

Thank you everyone who has donated! It really helps!

Todo:
-Advanced boot menu
-Further improvements
-Overclocking
-You tell me!

Because I've virgin mobile galaxy s2 4g with midnight rom 1.04 and full root. Which was the second links. If you want sprint/custom roms go to the sprint roms forum for the sprint galaxy s2 over at xda developers. Which there's plenty to choose from but harder to flash because you need the virgin mobile modems and stuff. The easiest installation process is with midnight rom and is complety stable.

It's a great rom with a grear dev and had overclock ability and other speed enhancments without losing stability.

And to answer your first question. No, the s2 roms wont work, because the virgin mobile galaxy s2 4g is based off of the samsung galaxy s2 epic 4g touch. So go to the forums for that:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S_II/SPH-D710/ROMs

So beast roms here, maybe some stable after flashing modems?

http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1284

Thank you Scotty for all your assistance.

So let me get this straight. I want to be crystal clear here:

I'm going to be getting the Samsung Galaxy S2 FOR Virgin Mobile on Friday, well technically Monday. (It'll take it a couple days to get here :() So what you are saying is that the roms on the page that I initially posted the link to WON'T work??? Even if I do the flashing thing you mentioned? I won't have a sprint phone. It WILL be Virgin Mobile. Just want to be clear on that. I think I'm going to go with the Midnight-Rom you suggested. I think you said version 1.02 or 1.03.

I used Cyanogen for my EVO back in the day and LOVED it as well. I may give that a go eventually. Until then I just want somethings stable, that is stripped down, and may give me the ability to overclock a bit.

Thanks again for your help and a thanks to the other guy too that chimed in.

No problem and yes version 1.02 is the best bet for being "stable"

Just remember you flash the stock gb28 first supplied at the midnight rom installation and then you dirty flash the rom. Only because doing a full format has been reported to have issues due to the kernal also, you might need to flash twice for the kernal to take effect. But besides that I hope your experience with your phone goes great.

i agree, 1.02 is the most stable, after that, it got kinda bloated and crashy

harder to flash because you need the virgin mobile modems and stuff.

actually you are confusing modems with APNs and PRLs modems have nothing to do with being connected to a specific network when it comes to these phones. they just contain code that tells the phones data antennas how to function. a sprint modem will work on this phone just fine (im running FL24 which is a sprint ICS modem), the only thing you need to look out for is what version of Android the modem is for and it also depends on the type of ROM you are flashing. The JellyBean modems will only work on TouchWiz JellyBean based ROMs and the ICS modems will only work on the Touchwiz IceCreamSandwich based ROMs (sprint or virgin variants of the modem, doesn't matter, although different modems may have different speed and or connectivity based on where you live). ALSO: If you are going to use an AOSP JellyBean based ROM (CyanogenMod, AOKP, ParonoidAndroid, P.A.Cman) then ONLY the ICS modems will work. the things that make the Sprint ROMs a bit more tedious is the extra flashes you have to do to fix the Visual Voice Mail and the Multi-Media Messaging (sending picture texts) :p :D
