Stand by mode doubt

Hi,

My question may seem silly. But i'm a noob when it comes to smart phones.
In many user comments i read that keeping the phone in stand by mode at night(i.e when you sleep) saves the battery.
But how to put the phone into stand by mode?
Please dont laugh at my question :)

The comments you are refering to, probably mean "Airplane mode". It switches off the 3 transceivers in your device: the Phone, Wifi and Bluetooth radios (but not GPS as this is just a receiver). You can toggle Airplane mode on/off by long-pressing the power button.

Thanks buddy :)
But if i put the phone into airplane mode, then will i be able to receive calls or texts?

No but you could schedule your phone to turn on the cell radio once every hour for 2 minutes or so, to allow text msgs coming through. You'll need Tasker or another scheduler app.
