Star I-93 (Alps I-93) Help!! boot loop after root SOLVED>>SOLVED

500bhp

Newbie
Hi Guys
I hope someone can help as I am totally at my wits end!

I have a Chinese phone Star I-93 which is also called the Alps I-93, and appears to have the same software as the Haipai I9220.

It has the MTK6575, running ICS 4.0.3.

I rooted it with the MTK Droid Root and Tools V 2.21, from the Russian forum, which worked perfectly!

But yesterday the phones battery ran flat as I forgot to charge it, and on powering on it boot loops, ie I get the blue flying android then the green block android worm coming across then it just keeps revolving the android name.

I have gone into the android system recovery, at this point it says usb device not recognized if I keep the usb lead connected, and tried wipe data/factory reset

Hi
Thanks for the response, I have looked extensively through that post last night, but still no luck with anything, as you say I need to reset, I have tried via ASR but it still boot loops, and will not accept the new rom ?????? invalid digital signature.

Hi
Yes have done the factory reset several times
This is what I get and do
select wipe data/factory reset
select yes delete all user data
It then displays
wiping data
Formatting data
Formatting cache
data wipe complete

also after this I have tried
wipe cache partition
But still it loops!!!

Also I think that I now realise I cannot load the backup I have, as I get signature verification failed due to the fact I am not using CWM but the standard Android system recovery.
But I cannot get CWM into the phone from the sdcard as it does not see it when I try to put it in with apply update from sdcard.

Another thing I have noticed that the MTK Droid tools, Odin, or Flash tools cannot see the phone and no ADB is listed in the device manager, just usb drive.

The drivers for the adb are still on my comp, but it only lists it as a usb drive untill I get it into ASR then its comes up not recognised.

I am at such a total loss that if any one does solve this for me I will pay them for the services via paypal.

Pulling my hair out now.

Phill

UPDATE.....UPDATE.....UPDATE

In case this helps anyone else, I have now found that if I boot into factory mode ADB pops up in device manager, and I can access the phone via MTK Droid Root & Tools v2.11.
I have tried doing a recovery, but you guessed it...it still loops, so I am now trying to root it and lets see if that does anything!!!!
Odin seems to see it as well but I do not know how to use it any ideas?

Thats the problem I cant install clockwork mod, as I can only boot the phone into ASR or factory mode, normal just loops, and I cant see how to get cwm into the phone even with MTK Droid Tools, so that it does not boot into ASR, but CWM instead.

I'm confused how did the backup get saved with CWM if the phone doesn't have it, shouldnt the stock recovery mode work to restore the backup.

And what rom or whatever are you trying to put on the phone?

I originally rooted the phone with the MTK Droid & Root Tools which came from the Russian Chinese phone forum.
It made a backup copy of the phones OS, this is what I have been putting on the SD Card and trying to restore.
I have never installed CWM, when I try to do a factory reset or install the backup it does not appear to work because it says signature invalid.

If your confused you can imagine how I feel!!

But a further update I have now got the Smart Flash tool software able to see the phone...(not sure how I did it), and when I rooted the phone it gave the option to make a file for Flash Tool which I have also tried to install onto the phone but with no success.

As the Flash tool seems to be communicating with the phone is there any other option I have.

Thanks
Phill

Where would I find that, and how would I load it ?

Well you could try doing what you have been doing with the SD card, except you shouldnt get that error of Validation because it is a fresh build.

First off is the phone rooted?

Because honestly, we could just keep trying different roms until one works.

Yes it is rooted

Well now you could just keep trying to put different roms on it and see if one makes it past the boot loop.

So can't you just put some roms on the SD card then put it in the phone then try and load them with the android recovery?

Also, trying to look into finding some roms or something for this phone, since it is so...rare? i think is the word i am looking for lol, since i can hardly find anything on it.

Thats what I have been trying but it always comes up with validation signature error.

I thought you were just trying a backup you had? Have you tried any other installs?

EDIT: Sometimes i wish i could read Chinese, some of these sites

EDIT: Man this is horrible i am like searching the edges of the internet for any information on this phone and just getting nothing.

Yes many different ones, how would I go about installing a Cyanogenmod, I have tried but as I said before when in ASR it does not see the img file.

And it shouldn't be an IMG file if that is the file you are saving on the SD then something is wrong, they should be Zip files, then you just install via SD card.

At this point is there any way you can return the phone? haha, i know it sounds bad, but seriously, i am trying but can't really focus anymore time, as i spent my whole lunch hour looking for information on this sucker.

Ill try again later but, I really think you might want to consider trying to get an exchange or something.

This is the reason you shouldn't root without having a clue what you're doing. CyanogenMod doesn't support this device, because it's a Chinese knockoff. You can't just flash anything, you must have a compatible ROM.

Can't even find a factory ROM. Return it and stop flashing things.

1) You have a device which sold ~300 units
2) None of us have it
3) We weren't there with you while you tried to root/flash
4) I'm not a developer and can't quickly port you a ROM to fix it

This is why you shouldn't buy generic devices and expect support. You're in over your head. The best bet is to return the device and buy a mainstream one OR stop trying to root something which doesn't have support.

I do not "expect" support, I was asking for help
Not everyone is in the financial position to buy leading brands.
When you say "None of us have it" do you mean everyone who views this forum, or just maybe someone else may have come across this before, that you do not know
I dont think anyone was born knowing how to do any of this type of work on an Android phone, I am sure most like me jump in and try, it has not worked out for me, so asking for help from people on Android forums does not seem to be unreasonable.
I perfectly understand if you do not want to help, maybe someone else will be more understanding.

I do want to help, but there is really nothing any of us can do because support is device specific. If you had a GS3 or HTC One X, we could help, because millions of those devices were sold. There is not a CWM for your device. There aren't any custom ROMs. Even the rooting procedure is scarce.

Most people look before they dive into water. Otherwise you could hit your head on the ground. Before I rooted my first device, I read for nearly two weeks everything I could get my hands on. It was a $500 investment when I was a kid. Why would I want to screw that up when all the information was available to me?

With all the facts we know, your best bet is to return the device. OEMs have tools not usually accessible to us which can un-brick the device and sell it as a refurb.

I'm still trying what stage are you at now 500bhp

ExtremeNerd, i think he understands the delicacy of the matter, so you don't need to sound upset. We want to help, last resort is to tell him to return it, and just because none of us have it doesn't mean we still can't offer what we know.
