Help Star Notification Advertisements

First of all, I want to say that I lurked this board for a bit before joining. I found that I could root my phone and install the much faster Icarus (OS?). So, I cracked open a bottle of Crown and got to work. Thank you all for your wonderful tutorial. I am now in love with my phone and do not plan on upgrading anytime soon.

That being said, I have noticed something a bit odd. Today, my phone's browser (still using the default) would not go to any website. It would continually "load" for whatever reason. I rebooted, thinking it would help. When I unlocked the phone to try again, I noticed a little star in my notifications. Curious, I dragged the bar down and found "Local singles ready to chat now!". Now, I am a man that is never in need of a dating site. Even so, my curiosity got the better of me and I tapped the cursed little thing. I was met with a website that prompted me to enter my phone number. I chuckled and closed the browser.

I then visited the Marketplace, downloaded AVG, and ran a virus scan. It prompted me to uninstall Superuser, which was necessary to root the phone and install Icarus. Now here is where my questions come in.

1. What was that little advertisement doing on my phone and how can I prevent them from showing up again?
2. What kind of precautions should I take knowing that my phone has been modded with Icarus?
3. Are those ads anything to worry about?
4. Is there anything else I need to know about IcarusMOD?

Thank you for your time!

Sorry for bumping, but I have new information. The browser is working, it is just significanly slower, as is every other program on this phone. I am also unable to tether with EasyTether Free.

Sounds like there is some app on your phone that is pushing that through as a push-notification. Have you downloaded any apps that weren't on the market lately? Have you downloaded any adult or XXX apps (Mikandi or adult video streamer apps)? (Don't worry I won't tell) ;)

Nope, all my apps are straight from the market.
I get my porn from an undisclosed source and it's just images.
Any reasoning for the slowdown?

Check and see what processes are running. That should give you a clue as to what is slowing you down. Make sure you look at the usage because some will be there but not be using anything like Firmware update and such.

Nothing, really.

never had that problem when i was on icarus when i got my phone, but also somewhere i read that they will be push notification advertisement to android phones...

Just found this posting. I was getting the same annoying star. Found this getting a star in notification bar?! - Android Forum - AndroidPIT , installed air-push detector and saw it was blogger droid. Uninstalled. All good now.

There is also another app to solve this.AIR PUSH PERMANENT OPT-OUT ( by AIR PUSH,of course :P ),available in the ANDROID MARKET.

BTW,the AIR PUSH DETECTOR app detects the AIR PUSH PERMANENT OPT-OUT app as an unwanted app.VERY NICE!
Guess which one I kept?! ;)
