If I link my contacts to FB, does it automatically update the Birthday field in my Google Contacts?

I'm asking because that doesn't seem to be the case for me, but you're comment seems to indicate it does..

Yes i did that, but my calender is still a day out of date

Try using the current year. I entered my dad's birthday as a test (10/11/1930) and it displayed as 11th Nov. Changing year to current corrected it. This shouldn't affect birthday reminders as they're based on day/month.
