Root Starting up Phone Software Development

mayerbrand

Newbie
Can anyone gather me a list of software needed to work on this project? I have the OE Stock rom and OV w/ CM7 on it as well as the OV stock. all virgin mobile.

Kernals, drivers, Adb software, special android developer packs ect
and maybe a light tutorial and or comprehensive one. xda site is for some reason blocked by the AP i am using atm.:(

Im going to dive head first into phone development

My experiences reside with Vbasic for half a year at YTI -most of it was hardware and networking/server stuff. (2year worth)
and only some hobby modding and game tweaking through C# and blender.

I also would like to figure out what the difference in radio hardware (if any) that exists between these 3g phones and a 4g phone ( do they work like wireless adapter/routers like with the b g n standards? ) If this is not a factor maybe a change can be made to get 4g on the OE..

The main things I set my goals for is getting the everso tweak-able and full featured CM7,9 or 10 to work , fast enough to never lag using or playing normal games* just so its battery efficient-

I would LOVE to incorporate some kind of option install > you pick the apps / stock apps you want installed from the gate*when installing the ROM obviously the necessity's would be left out.

**No offense to anyone at all but I would like to maybe work from the ground up just to get a good look at things.

*I may end up using some things that giantpune ktb kurtis artine or hastag have developed but my goal here is to figure out what is built in that causes the Wifi AP issue > i need internet to update ps3 permissions.

I too have been thinking of developing a rom for the vm oe.

But I'm stuck where you are, all I know where to start is to get a stock "deodexed" rom but that's it, once it comes to the "deep root settings" if you will, that's like walking blind for me lol.

Anyways good luck learning to developing roms! :)

We would all be more than happy to have another dev for the OE. More than happy. And, in fact, if you post detailed findings and bug squashings, we'd be more than happy to incorporate the same changes. The OE could always use some more help!

As for a base ROM to start with, here.

Kernel, there's only one (and it's awesome) available, here.

Good luck. With Aeneas and Harmonia, Leslie made certain background tweaks throughout the system, and Aeneas we have permission to use. It's stock deodexed, with the full range of stock apps, but with Harmonia's tweaks, and as a result Aeneas should be the ROM we start with as a base. Tagged, for example, is built fundamentally on top of Aeneas, using Aeneas as its base. Sleipnir uses Tagged as its base. Other ROMs use Aeneas as their bases.
