Help Startup sounds

Try turning the volume off before you switch it off. It worked with the Desire although I havent tried it with the S3

Settings > Sound > Volume > System ( move bar all the way to the left ) then tap OK.

Edit: this is stock & I'm on Verizon.

Does this only turn off the startup / shutdown sounds? I don't want to turn off something else I'm not aware of.

Digging into an older thread. Anyone have the answer to Kayst's question? I am interested in doing this and wonder if it effects any other sounds than the startup/shutdown process.

It would only stop the startup/shutdown sounds. If rooted just rename the poweron.ogg and shutdown.ogg, change the ogg to bak, this way if you want them back you still have them.

I turned it almost all of the way down, but not off to see if any other sounds were turned down before I completely turned it off.... It seems to effect the google now sound interaction also, which makes me think it may be effecting others too...

I am not really interested in rooting. I can live without the Google now sounds, but will update this thread on any other sounds I notice that are effected.
