Status bar background

My home screen wall paper is a light color at the top, and it's very hard to read the white status bar info now. Is there a way to change either the font color or the background color of the status bar?

If your rooted yes most roms give you the option to tweak the status bar or you can find an xposed app to do the same. If your not rooted try using the nova launcher it allows you darken the status bar

Not rooted, so maybe I'll give Nova a try. I'm also considering just trying to edit the background to put a black bar at the top.
