Root Status Bar icons

is there an app, or a zip file to flash, to where i can
choose to hide certain icons from the status bar?

i like to just turn my screen on to see if i have any
notifications, but i hate it how i get the "more" icon,
where you have to drag the status bar down, only
to find out it was just an update notification.

Hey, just found this tonight while flashing a rom and remembered your post. If you are in the market and on your downloads page, hit the menu button, then notifications. You can then turn off update notifications.
Not sure if this is all you wanted to do but it should help ya with one of the things that frequently posts to notifications.
