Help Status indicator (gray/blue)

Does anyone have an idea what the gray means (signal 3g/4g/wifi) indicator and why it changes to blue?

In the manual it just says it can be either with no reason for the difference. I have not noticed anything odd and it occurs for no reason at anytime.

It's a Gingerbread feature. It should turn blue when you have a functioning Internet connection that can connect to Google servers. It will be white when you first connect, or if you are connected but it can't connect to Google servers, for example on one of those wifi connections where you need to open your web browser to do something before you can get on the Internet.

You can speed up the process of turning blue by opening Google Talk, which is the actual connection that it uses to measure it I believe.

Mine goes grey for minutes at a time on and off during the day. The bars still fluxuate as they normally would when blue. But when I recently tried to connect to an app to run a signal test while the bars were grey it wouldnt connect. I had to wait for everything to be blue.

Yep. It's just like the Nexus S, just blue instead of green.

I find that my galaxy nexus' bars turn grey and then don't work.
Then I switch in and out of airplane mode, and then I get reception for a while. Please help me with this. I bumped this post instead of starting a new one, btw.

You'll have better luck asking in the Galaxy Nexus forum. For what it's worth, however, I have heard that phone has had signal issues in the past so you're probably not alone.
