Why would one go back to stock for 2.2? Rom devs are already working on 2.2 (rooted) roms for Droid. Roms will be available before the official update...Some are saying as soon as tomorrow...

I'm finding that only non rooted N1 users can update to 2.2, with that being the case it would only make sense that you would have to be stock 2.1-update to get 2.2...

How are people working on a 2.2 rooted rom when 2.1 isn't even rooted?? I understand getting some of the benefits but like we did with 2.1 but the official 2.1 as far as I know hasn't been rooted.. so... and if that is the cause I would wait for black droid to make one.. cause I'm sure he would trick it out and make it B@d@$$

Just thought about this... if 2.2 is as amazing as it sounds and gingerbread is already around the corner... what could dev's add that we wont be getting from the official update??

Did you just answer your own question???

The developers are taking the release that they got, and they are porting it over so we can have out own 2.2 ROM before everyone else who isnt rooted. And since we have 2.1 ROMS I dont see how we wouldnt be able to get a 2.2 ROM.

yeah but having a 2.2 rom is different from having a rooted 2.2 from my understanding.. if am wrong someone please clarify

There are currently 2 ways to install 2.2 on an N1. They result in exactly the same rom, with the noted exceptions.

1. Stock N1 - Download update from Google's servers, then install.
2. Rooted N1 - Install using a different 2.2 rom created by devs. Identical, but has SU permissions/Root.

**EDIT**

I think you may be confusing something. When the SDK came out, some devs made a crappy rom out of it that lacked many features and was unstable. The new "rooted" N1 rom is from the update.zip, not the SDK...

Frankly, I like trying the stock ROMs first. It's the only true way to benchmark and test a new ROM and then compare that to the custom ROMs.

I'm especially looking forward to trying out the new JIT-enabled Dalvik in it's virgin form, without an over-clocked kernel.

+1. It's the only way to make an informed comparison.

I can't wait to dethrone the JP1 from Linpack's top 10, :D

Can't do that without clocking to 1.3GHz though, so I'll be keeping my root tyvm :)

Hmmm. OK, let's see - Needs root:

  • SetCPU
  • Titanium Backup
  • ROM Manager
  • TempMonitor
  • Ad-Free
  • CacheMate
  • drocap2
  • ES File Manager
  • GSCript Lite
  • QuickBoot

I think I'll stay rooted :D

However, Having a rooted ROM doesn't mean I cannot get a good approximation for how it runs at stock, with stock settings and all extraneous and superfluous apps simply killed.

I'll go straight to rooted as soon as I can find a stable 2.2 for my DROID.
