Stays on while charging!

You mean entirely or like the screen lights up and shows the battery indicator rising? I know many cellphones turn on to show the battery indicator.

if you mean the screen doesn't turn off then do this.
go to menu > settings > applications > development > stay awake
the description for "stay awake" is "screen will never sleep while charging."

otherwise, you can't do anything about turning off your phone.

I can't understand why this setting is so hidden.

I also don't understand why it's under the Development settings. Even though the phone is plugged up when you are testing applications, it still shouldn't be in that menu, since there are other times when the phone is plugged up(like just charging it).

my bet is they wanted to be sure that when the phone was in the home dock the clock stayed on the screen and this was the easiest way to get that done. Hopefully they come up with a better plan in an update...

Thank you! I couldn't figure out why my fiance's Droid wasn't turning off its screen when it was plugged in. I figured that setting would be with the other screen settings.

I believe this issue will be fixed in the firmware update they are rolling out on December 11th (according to the leaked documents)

I can turn off the screen of my Droid when it's in the Multimedia Dock/charging by pressing and releasing the power button. Have you tried that?

That's what everyone should be doing. If you want your screen to turn off, just press the power button quickly. End of problem.

When charging just push the power button to lock the phone, that should turn the screen off. This works all of the time, not just when you are charging and is how I lock the phone / turn off the screen before I put it in my pocket every time.
