Root Step by step guide for Peter Alfonso's ROMs?

probably not the right area for this but there are some helpful links within the "all things root" thats stickied but linked here as well. Likewise just taking the time to read around so you know what you're getting yourself into. Specifically after taking a look you'll probably want to use this which can be found in that link.

copied and pasted below as well

How to Install a custom rom with SPRecovery

1.) Download the rom
2.) Place the file in the root of your sdcard.(Not in any folder just on the sd card.)
3.) Rename the rom to update.zip. Be sure that you are only naming it update.zip. Windows often does not show file extensions and you will end up with files named update.zip.zip. Renaming files with Astro File Manager once they are on your sd card is a good solution to this.
4.) Power off your droid
5.) Boot into recovery by holding X while powering on the phone
6.) Perform a nandroid backup (always sound practice although this is not required)
7.) Wipe data/factory reset (Again not required all the time but unless you are sure it will work without wiping its smart to do so.)
8.) Wipe Cache Partition (Again not required all the time but unless you are sure it will work without wiping its smart to do so.)
9.) Click on install (Note you can use the volume rocker to navigate and the camera button to select.)
10.) Press allow update.zip Installation
11.) Press Install /sdcard/update.zip (deprecated)
12.) When the install is complete use the power button to go back to the main menu
13.) Reboot

How to Install a custom rom with Clockworkmod Recovery

1.) Download the rom
2.) Put the file anywhere on your sdcard.
3.) Power off your droid
4.) Boot into recovery by holding X while powering on the phone
5.) Perform a nandroid backup (always sound practice although this is not required)
6.) Wipe data/factory reset (Again not required all the time but unless you are sure it will work without wiping its smart to do so.)(This also wipes your cache partition so no reason to do that as well.)
7.) Press install zip from sdcard
8.) Press Choose zip from sd card
9.) Navigate to the file and click on it.
10.) When the install is complete press the power button to get back to the main menu
11.) Reboot

hope that helps.

Only thing I would add for clarification is on the following steps:

Perform a nandroid backup (always sound practice although this is not required)

- Always make a backup. While not required failing to make one has left a number of people in a really bad place when something didn't flash right.

Wipe data/factory reset (Again not required all the time but unless you are sure it will work without wiping its smart to do so.)

- If loading a Peter Alfonso ROM (either Bugless Beast or GPA ROM) from a non-Pete ROM then you have to wipe data and cache.

Thanks to both of you! This worked great for me. For clarification, I did the ROM first (named it update.zip and flashed it using the above steps), then the kernel. This was 100% worth it...my phone feels BLAZING fast now. (Of course, it also has half the battery life it did!)

I did run a backup and wiped all data before proceeding.

Very nice, though. Saved me $300 in upgrading to a new phone.
