Root sticky power button

My power button is failing. Som one told me of an app that I could use to re-program the lighted buttoms at the bottom of my LG Esteem and use one of those to activate the screen. I have never once used the little search button so that would be the perfect solution but I can't find the app. Does anyone know if it exists? I know this wont help if it gets turned off, but for now, I'm just sick of wearing out my fingers pushing the button at the top over and over, just to make a phone call and God forbid I need to call 911.

Try searching Google Play Store for "wave screen on" and "proximity screen on" to see "Soft Power", "Auto Screen On", and other apps that use the proximity sensor at the top of the screen to turn the screen on.

Try searching for "screen off" to see "Screen Off and Lock", "SoftPower", "Screen Off" and many other apps that can turn the screen off without using the power button.
