Help Sticky Situation with Eris

I have had my Droid Eris for a couple months now, and i have loved it. Today when i woke up i had no phone calls or texts from people that i knew i had. When i try to open any app or call anybody it says,
"The process com.android.phone has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again." Over and over. I brought it in to the Verizon Wirelss store and had a specialist look at it and reset it to factory settings and it is still doing it. He gave me some hope in saying "your toast bro".

So after reading around on these forums i can see that you guys clearly know more than the person that helped me. So do you guys have any suggestions, i have a friend that knows how to root and said he will. Will this even help that? I just love this phone and dont want to go back to an LG flip phone.

Specialist?... I think not. you should have said "I brought it to the clueless, I just work for the check guy at verizon". lol

Anyway, now when you guys did this factory reset. Did you actually go to settings/privacy/and do a full factory reset? Cause if it still does that afterward, that would have to mean your phone did that out of the box. a factory reset should have worked. It sets everything back to "factory settings" like when you first got it.

You wouldnt be able to root if thats gonna keep popping up.
 
Yeah i didnt really consider him a specalist.
But yes we did do a factory reset the whole way through and everything looked the same. Now the boxes arent popping up but its like i have no service only thing i can do is wi-fi. So I have no hope but to look on Ebay for another droid? because i cant go back to a normal phone

Unless your phone is physically damaged (water damaged/dropped) you should be eligible for a warranty replacement. thats another thing i dont get. he didn't offer a replacement device? he just said your toast? :rolleyes: vzw reps man... Call customer service and see if they can get a replacement out to you. i dont think that was fair. You're having software issues and he says your toast and doesn't help at all!:mad: Let me know what happens.

EDIT: No service? Are you sure you activated your eris?
 
Welll, I got the phone from a trade with a friend, there is a hint of water damage on hit, but it had it a long time ago when i had problems getting the droid onto my account, so its nothing new water damage wise. So i have no warranty which is kinda silly since it was paid for and i pay for the service. The phone is still hooked up the rep just said, "This worries me, I dont know what could be causing this".. I asked him if they could go into it and check it out and he just said "No man im sorry"..
So yeah i am trying to figure out why i cant make calls or texts at all. since the box isnt popping up anymore...


P.S There are decent deals on Moto Devour why is that so much cheaper than the DROID phones even though it runs android?? im really considering that if i cant get this fixed.
 
Stay away from the devour. Much more of a headache. Trust me. I didnt even own the phone and it gave me a headache. Did you try to call customer service? They might still replace it. Just give it a try. tell them your problems and let them do the usual trouble shoot. usually after that, theyll consider replacing your eris. also are the water damage indicators set off?

I was sitting in my room looking at my phone trying to call a couple friends and the box was no longer popping up so i knew something was up.. I finally realized the self-proclaimed "Specalist" failed to activate phone!.. so once i dialed *228 i got the phone working and its been fine ever since... So all in all you were correct from the beginning and i thank you for not overlookin the thread like everyone else...

One more question,
The guy at the store told me that Advanced App Killer is actually harmful for your phone and makes battery life diminish faster, I believed him because it seems when i use task killer frequently my battery dies faster so i am not sure what to belive quite yet so i was wondering what you know about that?

It's refreshing that there is a Verizon Wireless Store where they don't push task killers on you!

Taks killers are a controversial topic. Here is a pretty good article about why and what you can use instead: Android Task Killers Explained: What They Do and Why You Shouldn't Use Them

Yea doogald gave you the right link. They aren't good for Android. The harm more than help. I don't use them myself. When I did, I was so addicted to killing tasks like very 5 minutes. When I broke the addiction, I noticed my phone moved much snappier and quicker. So yea, I don't recommend using task killers. Plus the Android system has it own built-in task killer if you really need to stop something.

Yeah you guys are pretty cool here i have gone to help forums before and no reply to the noob haha. But yeah its so hard to not click task killer anymore but i am going to try it.
All in all we learned that specalists out there are well.... you know haha
