Still happy

I went from my BB to the DInc last year on my b-day when it first came out. Was sooo excited! Phone blew away my BB and all the things you can do with a smartphone.

Over the last year I've loved my DInc and never really saw any reason to ugrade. But the last 3 weeks or so that little annoying 'Low space' notification came on every day and I would have to clear the cache on literally every app and even un-installed some rarely used apps. Did the trick for about 2 weeks, but the last week, I couldn't get the notification icon gone, even after clearing the cache trick. I literally un-installed everything but Handscent, K-9 and Opera Mini. I can't live without those 3 apps! Icon was still there and therefore couldn't get my Gmail push (no biggie, just moved to K-9), but also couldn't download/update any apps in the Market.

So, I went to the local VZW store where I got it from last year and know the guy who sold it to me and tried everything he could, but said only thing left is hard reset. I was soooo tempted to say F it and just upgrade to the Thunderbolt for a $150 "valued customer" offer, but said no. My coworker has one and loves it, but the battery life as we all know is downright pathetic. And living in a 4G Atlanta region, sure the speeds will be awesome, but the phone will have to be constantly charging...

I did the hard reset last night and all day today it's been like a brand new phone all over again. LOL.. No 'Low Space' notification, battery "seems" a little better and everything running nice and smooth. Took maybe 45mins last night to re-install/download ALL my old apps again, so was no sweat.

I too love to be on the top of my phones, but I just don't see anything out there yet to warrant it. Maybe the Samsung G2 might be the one. But who knows when it will ever be on VZW.

I'm going to keep my DInc as long as I can until something that good comes out for me to change. :) Love live the DInc! hehe...

Just curious... What about Handscent makes it so much better than the stock HTC message app that it's a must have? I tried it but it took a lot more valuable memory and was kind of laggy. Ultimately, I found the stock application works fine for most sms needs and I like the clean interface. Same thing with the stock browser. I've tried them all, but always come back to the original.

Here is why Handcent is a must for me. And maybe the stock app will do this too, and I just haven't figured it out yet, but here goes.

When you open up Handcent it always goes to the main screen, so then you click the person you want to text, and then do your texting.
The stock app opens up by default to the last person you were texting.

That has caused me to say some very mushy stuff to one of my buddies more than once. (the mushy stuff was intended for my wife, but I forgot that he was the last person I had texted, and I didn't look). lol

With the stock app, if you want it on the main screen, you have to clear out to it when you're done. That is a pain, to me.

Plus I like the colored bubbles that Handcent has, and the black theme which goes well with all the dark colored Android apps in Gingerbread. I haven't noticed it to be any more laggy than the stock app.

Thanks for your explanation. I liked the bubbles too (which I think is from ichat), but the low space issue and size of app made me go back to stock. The stock app always goes to the start page for me where I see a list of recent conversations. I did like how handcent handled images and allowed you to zoom in within the app once you've downloaded it.

Don't do it!!!

There are some really sweet phones coming out - way better than the TB.

And the Incredible will definitely hold us over for a while.

Forward facing cameras are cool. But in 2 years you won't be able to find a smartphone without one, so that won't be a deciding factor for anyone when shopping around. Dual-core processing will probably be the same way.

That is just my little speculation.

Negative - Quad Core is already on the horizon.

I had issues with handcent on my inc, so I got gosms and it works great. Same principal, but more customization features, if your into that sort of thing. Handcent fc'd on me quite a few times, and was laggy at times, but haven't had a lick of probs with gosms.

As far as the TB, Its not a bad phone really, I just activated one yesterday. The screen is awesome and very responsive. The phone is super heavy though. IMO out of the 4g phones on vzw, it would be the one to get. I love my inc, and wouldn't really trade it for anything we have now. I'm not a huge fan of the x2 either. Its just, heh, I dunno, I just don't like it. I have friends with it, they love the thing. I'll take my inc though.

In short (ish) if you must have a 4g phone, I would say the TB is it. Otherwise, the inc2 isn't a bad phone, but just kind of a lame "reboot" of the original inc. Just added a bigger screen and a front camera. Its not a bad phone, but going from the original inc to the inc2 seems kinda...well, unneccisary honestly.

Just my .02, but I would say wait. If you have unlimited data, you will keep it, supposedly. VZW has been pretty good in the past about grandfathered customers and not forcing them to switch stuff. But as far as the data goes, thats anyones guess. I've seen the same documents you all have about the switch over, but to me the wording about upgrades after 7/7/11 is kind of muddy. Hopefully there will be some clarity on it soon. But I would urge you to look and see how much data your actually using. I haven't used more than 2gb's in about 6 months now. However, IMO, I shouldn't be getting charged the same for less. I think the 2gb plan should be $20 a month. Again, just my opinion.

sorry for the rant, lol.

What is the point?
Are we gonna be able to control NASA missions from our phones?

Yea I don't know. I don't really care for quad core. You can only do so much with a small handheld device. And I'm not going to be getting into hardcore gaming or anything.

Went to Big Red and looked at the TB, didn't like the battery life, the rep even talked me out of it. Charge was cool, but didn't have that WOW FACTOR. MOTO Droid x2 almost got me, but noticed lag. The rep said; that's what you get with motoblur.

Glad the reps were honest and not trying to make a quick sale. I really don't know what to expect from the phones from the future or what more they can do, really. But, I would still like to see better battery life.

Yeah...I personally think their making a mistake going the 90-core, mucho hertz route. Unless you're gaming on the phone (if you are, just buy a psp/ds/etc), nobody needs that processing power. They should be making the hardware more efficient, shoot for long battery life, and while they're at it get the Software engineers to write better, less laggy code.

Until a sensation equivalent comes, no change for me. For those with battery or space problems. Instead of getting new.phone why not root.

Battery life much better and using cachemate notenoughspace or something similar will fix space issues.

Save the money and root until better is out there
