I plan to root my Evo 4G phone tonight using Unrevoked 3.21. I know there's a lot of threads on this topic, and I've read them all, but I still have a few questions and I suspect there are more than a few Evo owners in my state. My phone is running Android 2.1 and is "partially" rooted (I have wifi tether but can't flash roms or upgrade). Still have a few questions...appreciate any help!
1. I had a friend assist me with the rooting process (the root technology wasn't so simple a couple of months ago), and I'm not sure what process was used...I think it was SimpleRoot. I scanned the installed apps using Manage Applications and did not see any Unrevoked or SimpleRoot apps. Do I still need to "unroot" before I move forward, and if so, how?
2. I am still on Android 2.1 as I'm one of the many users that got the dreaded yellow exclamation point when he tried to do the upgrade. Can I move forward with Unrevoked 3.2 in my current "partially rooted" 2.1 state? I had hoped to "unroot" and apply the stock upgrades before rooting, but if I don't have to, so much the better.
3. Before I begin, I plan to backup all apps and data using MyBackup Pro and Astro Manager. I also will sync up with AppBrain, as I plan to install the Fresh ROM after I'm done and I suspect that will make it easier to reinstall all the apps (I assume flashing the ROM will wipe my phone of all apps, correct?). Any other preparation steps recommended?
4. Once I complete the Unrevoked process (assuming it works), I'm unclear as to what state I will be in. I'm assuming I will be in the same Android 2.1 state I started, with all my HTC Sense and apps intact, except I'll be fully rooted...correct? If not, what can I expect? I would like to be sure as I may not flash a custom ROM for a day or so after rooting.
5. Once I do flash the latest Fresh ROM, I need to flash the Fresh radios as well, correct? Once this is done, I'm assuming my phone will be minus all apps. What's the quickest way to reinstall my apps: restore from backup or one by one using AppBrain? Or is there another way?
I know there's a lot of questions in there, many have been answered in various places...I appreciate the help!
